Well, at least the Phils didn't give up 20 runs last night. So they've got that going for them.

When two last place teams meet up, crazy shit happens!

I thought about going up there last night but didn't want to deal with all the negroes.

EDIT: O's not in last place. It only seemed like it.

Seahawks08 wrote:The simple fact is he put the team in the best position possible to win the 2009, 2010, and 2011 WS's, and if they did win those, you wouldn't be saying he's a failure. Not everything was due to Gillick and Wade - who started the process, but Amaro tried to build a short term plethora of WS wins. This is where I think you and I differ: I would sell the farm to obtain players like Halladay, Pence, Lee, and Oswalt whereas you probably wouldn't. I knew the time was coming where the phils would suck again due to those actions but I'm okay with it.

I am not saying Amaro is the greatest GM of all time, but he's not a complete failure like you portray him as. Signing Howard was ill-advised, but as soon as his contract is up, the phils will be flush with cash and hopefully some young players developing into good/great major leaguers. It has already begun as Franco and Asche get more playing time and Nola taking strides in the minors. At this point, it looks as if the Phils will get the #1 pick next year and the players who they get back from the Hamels and Paps trades will also help. And to top it off, Amaro is likely to be canned at the end of the season, so it makes everyone happy. :thumb:
The wolves are howling in Philly. Either Amaro or Sandberg -- or both -- may be gone by the end of the week. This Phillies team reminds me of the awful '72 team -- without Carlton.

Except there are no Schmidts, Boones, Bowas or Luzinskis on this team that are going to blossom into anything.

Edit: Franco shows some potential, but don't see much after that.

How pissed was Utley last night? You could see him tell the pitching coach "This is bullshit" when he came out to visit Francoeur. :suspicious:

Flipping between the Nats and O's last night trying to see who would win bigger.

Here's how bad the Phillies are, I can count on one hand the # of guys on the major league roster I'd want to still be on the team 2 years from now.

The fact that Amaro still has a job is awful. The lack of player development this franchise has exhibited over well more than half a decade has put them in a position to currently be the laughingstock of MLB (well except for the Cardinals hacking the Astros thing). 7 years removed from a WS, 5 years removed from a NLCS, now a pile of crap.

Agreed. What's sad is that Amaro completely decimated the farm system with the trades, but none of those guys he got rid of ended up being any good. So not only is our farm system bad now, but it's really been bad for at least a decade - we just managed to bamboozle a lot of teams into thinking we had something worth trading for.

The root of the problem isn't Amrao, however. The root of the problem is what it's been for quite some time now - the antiquated and dysfunctional setup of the Phillies owenership. That consortium of old money and old folks who run the limited partnership, and have since 1981, is perfectly happy just collecting interest on their investment. They were probably pissed when the Phils got good and won in 2008 since that made more people pay attention. Old people don't like noise and now that no one goes to games anymore, the noise has quieted down.

Let's see: Mikael Franco, Giles, maybe Azzdrubal Herrera, maybe Galvis...

Hamels will be gone. Who am I missing?

He's a defensive liability at 3B, and he has yet to prove he can hit major league pitching consistently. I know he's young, but I'm not optimistic.

On a positive note, Franco looks more and more like the real deal with each passing week. Something to root for, anyway. :|

Who would've thought they'd chase Wacka & Pineda on consecutive days. Franco could be really good.

Franco's a major league player, no doubt about that. May not end up being a great player but he certainly deserves the roster spot. The Phils could use a few more of his kind of player.

Hernandez and Rupp are starting to hit more, too. Asche, not so much.

Maikel Franco - Yankee killer. It's a sign of respect when the Yankees start throwing at you in the 7th inning the second time they play you. They should've hit him again in the 9th when he delivered the game winning hit.

Hamels & a broom today? Who would've thunk it?

By the way, what the hell happened to CC Sabathia? He's horrible.

93hen will get a kick out of this:

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon ... eader-soon

Andy MacPhail will most likely become the next Phillies president. With that, say goodbye to Amaro and Sandberg at the end of the season. Pat Gillick will step down to a consulting role.

In other news, Chase Utley hits the DL. This is important since his option vests for next year at 500 PA. He's currently at 249 PA. From what he has looked like this year, this may be it for him as a Phillie and quite possibly as an mlb player. And the torch will be passed on to JP Crawford, who is currently in AA now.

As sad as it is to say I'm glad Utley went to the DL. I hope he doesn't get to 500 PA's and we turn the page in October. Amaro should be gone August 1.

And Ryne Sandberg resigns.

Cubs fans can shed light but rumor is he and Andy McPhail hated each other from their Cub days.
