In the FCS Huddle: Best games by FCS conference

Post by The Cats »

TSN picks what they consider the best matchups in each FCS conference -
-a conference matchup,
-a team going outside the conference,
-a game against an FBS opponent
- a notable rivalry matchup.

Have to be better ones than these...

BSC Conference: Cal Poly at Eastern Washington
BSC FBS Matchup: Eastern Washington at Oregon

CAA Non-Conference: Lehigh at James Madison

SoCOn FBS Matchup: Chattanooga at Florida State

Southland Non-Conference: Central Arkansas at Samford

I would say that for the BSC conference game, the Eastern Washington @ Montana game is the biggest matchup in the conference behind the Brawl of the Wild.

As far as the CAA's best chance at a I-A win, sure McDonnell has a good track record vs I-A, and San Jose was only 3-9 last season, but I would rate UNH @ San Jose State as the CAA's 3rd or 4th best chance at a I-A upset. Villanova @ UConn or JMU @ SMU are probably the CAA's best chance at an upset I-A win.
-VU should be the pre season CAA fav, they have the Payton winner in Robertson returning at QB, and UConn was 2-10/1-7 last season.
-JMU should be a playoff team, and SMU was 1-11 last season.

UNH has lost their last 5 vs I-A, and in 4 of them they were drilled. In addition they lose BY FAR the most talent in the CAA. I count 12 of 22 starters from their semis as seniors, and they lose 9 of 12 that made all CAA and both AA (RJ Harris who led the nation in receiving and an OL).

I wouldn't exactly consider UNH over SJSU an "upset...."

It doesn't matter what you consider. The betting lines determines who is favored. And the line will be will definitely be + on UNH.

Simply because the average bettor is a FBS elitist snob who can't get it through his head that FBS status doesn't guarantee victory against the FCS....

I think ISU is going to be good and with those three games at home plus an opportunity against Poly, definitely have a shot be in the mix.
