I believe he was always known as Count Dooku, that was his public name (he was artistocracy). When he turned dark, that's when he got his secret name, Darth Tyranus. Everyone knew that he was anti-Republic since he was doing that in his Count Dooku persona (which was also ex-Jedi), but the wheelings and dealings behind the scene with Palpatine was the only place he was known as Darth Tyranus.andy7171 wrote:Why is Count Dooku also Darth Tyranus? Speaking of sith lords, how stupid was Palpatine's sith name? Seriously, Darth Sidious? Like he, as a person, is insidious? Wow, great mental leap by Lucas on that one. And do you think they came up with the name Darth Bane (he of the rule of two genesis) before or after the Batman movies with their own Bane?

Amazingly, Vader continues to be one of the best names, and it was the first one they had. It just rolls off the tongue..."Vader". Cool name.
They should've done more backstory on Grevious - while he was cool, he just sort of popped up in the third prequel out of nowhere.

Greatness doesn't have to be real, deserved or completely thought out - which is the subject of this thread, oh, and Star Wars weaponry.JoltinJoe wrote:Questions like this are ironic. No one asks this question about some historical figure unless there is something great about that figure.
No need to answer this question today. I'll let my great grandson handle this question when D1B's great grand nephew asks it again in 100 years.

Indeed, it's like that whole quote about being able to move the Earth with a lever as long as you can find a place to stand in space. Math is math, just make the V really big and the F gets big too. I watched "Gravity" a few months ago, and it's amazing what little tiny bits of metal can do in space when travelling at super high velocities. Very little M, very big V, results in very big F. Math is cool like that.89Hen wrote:Watched a cool show on extinctions and the one that got the dinos was just a little rock compared to the Earth. Grevious has a very cool back story, I read about him and how he collected all the lightsabers he had. I was looking forward to his character, and then he just gets offed quickly. I agree, his story is cool, it just wasn't even touched on in the movie. He features prominently in the animated Clone Wars series, which was a pretty good production. I mean, I was fine with having Natalie Portman as eye-candy in the films, but anything that could've reduced Anakin's screen time would've been beneficial.andy7171 wrote:Grevious has a very cool back story, I read about him and how he collected all the lightsabers he had. Re: What was so great about Jesus?
Yes, some overcome by self-deception. However, most never have to overcome anything because the myth was pounded into them since birth. And therein is the source of the greatness of jesus - indoctrination.89Hen wrote:I can see that people can get that feeling. Others overcome.D1B wrote:

As I've shown, he clearly didn't do anything spectacular to deserve it, humans just continue to heap praise on him then indoctrinate children. A cycle perpetuated for almost 2000 years.

Well that's the discussion here. Should he be great for being the son of god and having all the benefits that go with that title and really squandering the opportunity?JohnStOnge wrote:Surely you know the answer to that question for those who believe he is the Son of God, died for our sins, etc. And if you don't believe all that he's not that great to you. But you already know why he's so great to those who believe he's so great.
As far as him "dying for our sins," which is the reflexive bleat reply from christians, I'll bet you 9 of 10 couldn't even tell you what that means. It's the "Its got Electrolytes" reply of christians.
Ok, so he died four our sins
This is the image of the suffering Jesus that the catholics and fundies want you to envision and not clearly and deeply think about the back story highlighted above. A great god would have showed courage. Look at the poise and serenity Socrates showed when he was killed. Hell, mere mortals show more courage every day than jesus did.

Had some judo instructor once imply that a 32" light bamboo baton generated more force than an ash baton, as the decreased weight resulted in increased speed.
After attempting to explain F=mv, I could not dissuade him.
The following day, I brought a custom 32" african cocobola wood (extremely dense/strong...almost twice the weight of ash), pulled out a steel framed "numb john", and in three wacks BENT THE STEEL IN THE UPPER ARM!!
I then offered a months pay if he could do the same with the bamboo baton.
End of story.

F=ma, not F=mv. Huge difference. Your judo teacher didn't believe you because you were wrong.

Holy fuck...I made a mistake. P=mv, not F.
It does not change my premise.
Given a 1/8g feather and a 300g piece of ash, the velocity required for the feather to generate lethal momentum exceeds the capability of the unassisted human...not so for the 300g ash.
Therefore, though mathematically equivalent, in application, M beats V.

Re: What was so great about Jesus?
Two mistakes. F=ma is the relevant equation to your premise, not p=mv. "Lethal momentum" is the wrong phrase to describe what you're trying to describe, "lethal force" is correct. Note that a=dv/dt and that a force, (F), is actually proportional to the change in momentum, (p), with respect to time. Again, big difference.travelinman67 wrote:Holy ****...I made a mistake. Wrong. Momentum CAN determine lethality. Acceleration, while effecting force IS NOT a necessary variable to determine lethality.houndawg wrote:Two mistakes.
