Just like most other religions, it tries to explain things with magic instead of with logic or reason. Christianity is just popular right now. Seriously, all religions are really stupid. Explain things you don't understand by creating a god. I just don't understand how otherwise smart people can buy into this stupid shit.
What things are currently being explained by magic? Please list your top 5.

As to your lame statement of magic, a good example I like to use is the Christmas tsunami of 2004. In the past, it would have been attributed to God, but we now know it was due to a huge underwater earthquake. Seems to me much of the shit you are objecting to happened well in the past, when people didn't have the means to discover the true source. Good one Vidav, you are smarter than cavemen!

Do you not realize that Christianity was the most influential driver of the scientific method? It started with the monasteries and carried over to the first Universities. I need to confirm this one, but all but two of the first 108 Universities were Christian. Yeah, that surely sounds like believing in the spaghetti monster.

Lastly, how do you know your version of reality is correct?
The origin of the universe.
Heaven
Hell
Angels
The virgin birth
The resurrection
Miracles
Moses and jews in Egypt with no actual evidence

I don't know that my version of reality is correct. However I accept that even if I am wrong, I only accepted the evidence, so should be okay.

My own personal trek away from Christianity began when I started to look at the Bible with a critical eye. Even when I was a kid, my parents talked about how the Bible was an "inspired" truth, written for people of an age that did not yet know science and could not explain natural phenomena.

But for me, that killed it completely. If the Bible is the infallible word of God, then how can we change it to suit ourselves? As faithful (or willfully ignorant) as fundamentalists are, at least they understand that with the "word of God" if you change it to suit your. Own reality then you nullify it all. I can at least respect that.

My own logic tells me that I need to be a Christian all the way or not at all. I can't discount the presence of a god, but I also don't have the ability to take the existence of the Christian/Hebrew/Muslim God on faith alone.

Not true. The Church exists in Scandinavia; it's mainly of the Lutheran persuasion. And it's so prevalent, the government even subsidizes it with a church tax.

Still wanna be European?
Quit while you're ahead, dope. :coffee:
At the end of 2012, 67.5% of Swedes belonged to the Church of Sweden (Lutheran); this number has been decreasing by about one percentage point a year for the last two decades.[211][212][213] Approximately 2% of the church's members regularly attend Sunday services.
In the early 1990s, studies estimated that between 4.7% and 5.3% of Norwegians attended church on a weekly basis.[152] This figure has dropped to about 2%—the lowest such percentage in Europe—according to data from 2009 and 2010.
However, the majority of Lutherans attend church only for special occasions like Christmas ceremonies, weddings and funerals. The Lutheran Church estimates that approximately 2% of its members attend church services weekly. The average number of church visits per year by church members is approximately two.

I don't believe there is a God. At least not in terms of some dude who is going to deny me "eternal bliss" if I'm an ass.

If there IS a god I doubt he is the kind of being who concerns himself with me questioning his existence.

Seriously? I don't need different "social media friends". That shit is force upon me by places like this and "recommended posts" on FB, Twitter, etc. Not to mention the BS you hear in the news.

I have pretty much this exact same thoughts on things. If you do as AZGriz did a page or two back and say that you, or no one you know actually believes what they pretend to believe then why defend it is as some do.

None of the Sky Grifter 's on here pretend that this is just a good story we should read. They say they believe in it. You want to jump in the barrel then feel free but we're gonna grab our guns Mr. Fish. :thumb:

Challenging your thoughts or beliefs or SeaGriz's, or anyone's is not necessarily what a normal dude on this board would consider mocking and bullying. Quit being a bitch.

I know both you and SeaGriz personally and it honestly blows me away that two guys I consider real smart can buy into ghosts, fairies, and whatever else you want to pretend is out there. You are both fantastic peops though so I can abide if it's what you need..but you're gonna get busted on for the bullshit if it's all the same.

I mean seriously that story makes sense to you? I think I was maybe 10 when I said to myself "This is total bullshit!". You deserve the same sort of mocking that conspiracy nuts do. :D

When someone says they figured it all out at the age of 10, I wonder if they ever consider what that sounds like to a person of faith.

We all had it figured out when we were somewhere between 10 and 15, didn't we?

If you figured it all out when you were 10, I wonder if you have ever gone back and tested your certainty by reading defenses of religious faith put forth by noted and respected philosophers and theologians?

I ask these questions respectfully, with no intention of flaming anyone.

I long ago came to the conclusion that the only difference between a believer and an atheist/agnostic is on what side you place the burden of proof? Do you place faith in your intuition? Or do you demand tangible and irrefutable evidence?
