Michigan has pulled a 180 on this following Harbaugh's epic tweet....

A couple observations on this

First, that UM was going to show Paddington instead of American Sniper makes me wonder.... If I was in charge there and I was being advised of hundreds of whiny ass complaints- my reaction could well have been the same- drop Sniper for something so sarcastic that the message would be clear. Except I probably would have shown My Little Pony or Care Bears instead.

The combination of their choice of alternate movie, along with how quick they changes course in the coach's decision makes me wonder if this wasn't just a clumsy attempt at a troll.

The second though I had was what a sad commentary it is in the state of higher education that we have another obscene reminder of how our of control powerful big time college football coaches are.

The school backed down because Jim Harbaugh agreed to show it to his team? Not buying it. Hey! Maybe we won't look as silly and can placate the muslim student groups if we act as if the big bad autocratic football coach forced our hand!

BTW, in fairness to the muslim student group, they are not the only ones who have never seen American Sniper and just assume it's a "'Murica Pew Pew Pew" movie. There's certainly a lot of liberals out there who think it's some kind of neocon propaganda.

So, because a group finds offense to a "neocon propaganda" movie scheduled to play at a college it shouldn't be shown?

Does the same hold true for people who find offense with "neoliberal propaganda" being shown at colleges?

Don't know where you got that from what I said. All I'm saying is that the muslim students groups aren't the only ones that have a visceral hate for a movie they know nothing about.

The whole things smells like a University of Michigan publicity stunt...
and couldn't be used to better effect at highlighting the way everybody is forced to tip-toe on eggshells
around any potentially offended Islamic segment of the community

As CID points out:
American Sniper, oh wait Paddington Bear Oops never mind...
This whole situation reads like a joke

The movie shouldn't have been replaced, but on the other hand, Harbaugh seems to be using the team for his own personal political statement. Considering it's non-football related, can he even make the players watch something if they don't want to?

This is certainly in his favor, but after the way he abused Alex Smith, he's STILL a POS coach IMO....

Alex Smith is a big boy
I'm sure he's fine - after all how much sh!t should one be expected to "handle"
when being paid $7 Mil (at that time) a grumpy ass-hole coach is part of the deal
