So you think Cruz should be skewered for enrolling in Obamacare while he is philosophically against it?

Yes, just like I and countless other millions should be skewered for paying the IRS while I am philosophically against it.

Does he have an option? He can be against having the government providing health care, but if its the law and he wants to cover his family, what choice does he have?

Self insurance. The true free market.

But that's not the point. The point is that he's not really being all that hypocritical. It's a mountain out of a mole hill.

He wants to abolish the IRS. Is it strange that he still pays his taxes?

Obamacare is the law, remember? Maybe the President could take a lesson from Cruz, Re: obeying laws even when you disagree with them.

Cute, but Obamacare doesn't allow individuals to self insure.

No, it does not.

The law requires all individuals to either get coverage through their employer, on a government exchange, a "government approved" plan outside an exchange, or be fined for not complying with the law.

Bottom line:

You live in the world as it is. The fact that you make your decisions based on the world as it is does not invalidate your argument that the world should be different. And it doesn't make you a hypocrite.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

You can pay the penalty…so you're wrong.

I'm self insured and the insurance expense for my family went down about $600/month once we selected an approved plan. Then again, we had a cadillac plan to begin with. :coffee:

Speaking of reading comprehension fail.

If you pay the penalty, you do NOT have health insurance. If you're selecting an "approved plan", you're a member of an exchange and by definition NOT self insured.

Self Insurance - When a company opts to retain some of its potential financial risks, rather than to transfer those risks to a third party (i.e. an insurance company).

:dunce:
The only part I was wrong about was the technical definition of self insurance in describing my situation. I was using self insured because I don't have an employer plan nor do I qualify for subsidies. I didn't purchase the new plan on the exchange, I opted for a private plan that was the same as my old plan that was grandfathered. My bad.

But Cruz could self insure and pay the penalty. He would be funding his own insurance…but it would still be insurance, just not a part of a private, public, or employer plan. Hence the name "self insurance". It's not called "self non-insurance".

So you still lose. :kisswink:

None of this will matter once another couple of candidates get thrown into the cage match - Cruz won't last long, and the Dems will be diverted to bigger fish.
Yeah, the notion that a 44 yr old Harvard law grad with just a few years in the US Senate could announce his canidacy and be elected POTUS in 2+ years later is plain silly...

It's an option under Obamacare. Just like employers can opt to pay the penalty.

Whatever makes you sleep at night.

You're confusing insurance with self pay or out-of-pocket...individuals who were able to negotiate on their own behalf and pay in cash when services were rendered. Under Obamacare this is illegal, thus, a fine or penalty is imposed.

So, you're wrong...again. :kisswink: :kisswink:

What the fuck? There is no such thing as "self insurance" for an individual. If you're referring to self-pay, my God, you don't remember this little thing called the individual mandate requirement in Obamacare? :suspicious:
The most significant change created by Obamacare is the requirement that all Americans have health insurance coverage. Prior to Obamacare, there was no federal law requiring individuals to have health coverage; nor were employers required to provide it for their employees (except in Massachusetts and Hawaii). But starting in 2014 under Obamacare, all Americans must have at least minimal health coverage or they will have to pay a penalty to the IRS

Like paying your taxes is an option, right? You pay a penalty for not participating on April 15, too.

From my neck of the woods.

For the fifth anniversary of Obama signing the affordable care act into law, GOP Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers attempted to publicly embarass the president by asking her fans to share horror stories of their experience with healthcare on her official Facebook page. The result? A deluge of responses praising the law instead of bashing it. Just check out some of the most popular comments currently on her page:
