Montana trails A&M 38-33 at the half. The Griz finally got over their early adrenaline-fused nervousness (they looked like they were playing with Parkinson's at times) and ended the half on an 18-5 run. Brandon Gfeller hit 4 straight treys to close the half after being invisible for 3+ games.

Montana came back to take the lead in the second half, then promptly fell down by 18 again after a huge A&M run and lost 81-64. Season over for the Griz men. The Aggies ended up shooting 58% for the game after being under 50% at halftime. Jordan Gregory ended up leading Montana with 20 points in his final game.

That's too bad. Solid effort by UM, just ran out of gas in the last quarter of the game.

36-30 Hornets lead Portland at the half. Garrity is having a solid game but it has been a great team effort so far. Hornets are getting into foul trouble due to Portland's size so that will be an issue late in the game.

73-66 Hornets knock off Portland to set up a rubber match with NAU. Hornets controlled the game from late in the 1st half on, but Portland made a big rally to tie things up late. Hornets close out the game with some clutch FT shooting from McKinney. Our season continues!!!

EWU's women beat Wazzu in Pullman by 2, as well, after a layup by Jade Redmon at the buzzer. The Cougs fall to a Big Sky team in the WNIT opener for the second-straight year (they lost in Missoula last season). The game was rather swingy as EWU trailed 9-0, then led by 14, then blew the lead, then won it at the end. Lexie Nelson led the Eags with 19 while Lia Galdeira had 31 for Washington State. The Cougars went just 2/17 from the arc. This win sets up some possible Big Sky cannibalism as EWU will play the Sac/Pacific winner.

In the NAU/Grand Canyon game, former 'Jacks guard DeWayne Russell went 1/10 and scored just 3 points for the Antelopes. The win also gives the men's Big Sky four 20-win teams.

In the NoDak WBI game, the Blanks went just 11/21 from the line in a close, low-scoring game. In their final games, Megan Lauck had a game-high 15 points while Emily Evers had a game-high 10 rebounds.

Which means that EWU will have to deal with either an amazing rebounder in Kendall Kenyon at UOP or a rubber match against Sac, which has posted SIX 100-point games this season, and another NINE over 90. Not an easy task for the Eagles, either way....

NoCo flipped the script from the Big Sky title game by overcoming a double-digit deficit in Ft. Collins. D'Shara Strange had another double-double for the Bears as her career isn't quite over yet. UNC won the boards by 7 to get past 31% shooting. Colorado State also went down to a Big Sky team (Suutah) in the first round of this tourney last year.

Sac up 14 on Pacific at last check…

The Hornets upset Pacific 87-79 in Stockton to win the SuperHornet Bowl. Sac also got this win despite their best player Fantasia Hilliard being out for some reason. Adella Randle-El led Sac State with 20 points and 5 steals. Kendall Kenyon had a monster game for the Tigers with 28 points and 21 rebounds, but the rest of her team only combined for 20 boards. Sac will get a rubber match with EWU in the second round. Surprisingly enough, that game will be at Hornet Gym next Monday.

The Big Sky goes undefeated in the first round of the WNIT for the second-straight year. :thumb:

Georgetown closing the game kinda like the Griz did Saturday. Too bad for the Eags their deficit was so big this time.

And Georgetown dunks it rather than running the clock out. Can't say I blame them after what happened earlier this week… :coffee:

84-74 the final.

Hilliard played. She switched to #5 for some reason.

That was a HORRIBLY officiated game, but Sac won because of some REALLY smothering defense. I've never seen anything like it. Sac got away with some stuff (there was an elbow that should have been called a flagrant, but only netted a fresh possession), but there were make-up calls at the end that slowed them down on the way to another 100-point game. It's not like it was necessary, though, because Sac's quick hands and triple-teaming of ball-handlers forced UOP into some very uncharacteristic mistakes. Sac's outside shooters were freaking DEADLY, even when guarded closely. Despite bad zebras, Sac won fair and square. EWU ought to be worried. VERY worried. They WILL have problems handling the Hornets' press. Sac has the potential to make a LOT of noise in the WNIT, and could potentially get farther in than the Hornet men get in the CIT. I don't see any real problems in the field until a potential showdown with UCLA in the quarters. I think that if the dice roll right, Sac could even win this thing....

OK, they fixed it. The Sac box score originally credited Hilliard's stats to Kelli Robinson. Robinson is redshirting, so it's good they noticed that. :?

No embarrassment for EWU last night. They were in the game and almost covered the spread. Hope we see you guys on the red carpet next year. Go FCS!

The Lady Griz suffered their inevitable loss to Notre Dame by a final score of 77-43. The inside offense was decent, but Montana needed to shoot well from outside to have any hope and they couldn't make a three (open or otherwise) to save their lives (2/21). The Irish shooting 62% didn't help, either. Kellie Cole Rubel had 8 points and 6 assists in her final game for UM.

Sucks for Sac. They really needed this tournament more than NAU because the Hornets figure to drop a bit next year.

The 'Jacks overcame a 14-point deficit and shot 78% in the second half after shooting 37% in the first. It was also Sac's first home loss since December.

The Hornets played solid for 24 minutes, then pretty poorly for the final 16. NAU scored at will down the stretch and did a great job of making things difficult for Garrity and McKinney.

Great season for the Hornets. Very enjoyable and damn proud of this team.

Changing the subject to WBB…

I saw on your board that Hallie Gennett, the Big Sky's leader in 3-pointers made, has apparently left (or whatever) the Hornets. I can see she's no longer on the roster, but searching hornetsports.com and the web have barely even provided any acknowledgement that she's gone. It's very odd that a player would leave/quit between the Big Sky Tournament and the WNIT, especially since Sac knew they would be in the WNIT once the BSC Tourney was over.

Yeah I have no idea what has happened. It’s pretty sudden so she either decided to transfer or did something major that warranted her getting booted off the program. The semester doesn’t end for another 2 months so it can’t be grades. The Lady Hornets use the whole bench so someone else will have to step up. They did upset Pacific without her.
