The problem with "under God"

Post by kalm »

Would you have a problem with this at your kid's school?

What a bunch of dopes.
Students at Pine Bush High School in Pine Bush, New York, knew right away there was something not quite right about the Pledge of Allegiance. That’s because the pledge was being recited in Arabic.

“One nation under Allah,” the student body president announced over the intercom system on Wednesday.

Reaction in the upstate New York high school was swift, and so was the backlash, The Times Herald-Record reports. Furious students tried to shout down the recitation in their classrooms. Other students sat down in protest.

Of course I would have a problem with it, but I wouldn't be surprised at all. Schools get less effective in this country every day and more accommodating to everything but excellence. So this just fits right in.

We're more concerned that Loquitious doesn't get left behind and that Ahmed feels included that we really don't care about Dick and Jane anymore.

Now you're just being bitter because high school wasn't a happy time for you. :ohno:

The original Pledge didn't have the words "under god" in it at all, but like you said, schools were more effective back then. :coffee:

If you don't like how the schools are being run. There are other places to send them so STFU.

I don't give a flying fuck about the Pledge of Allegiance or whether or not it has the words "under God" spoken in it. To me, it always felt like a forced Nazi Youth moment each day in elementary school, and I'm not a religious nut anyway.

My concern is more that we are wasting time trying to make sure every little group gets its collective gonads massaged instead of focusing on developing the best and brighest, which we clearly gave up on over the past few decades.

And I have no idea what the fuck you're talking about with my high school. Weak tactic. I would say you could do better, but I've never seen you do better so I don't feel safe making that proclamation.

Yes, it does sound like a bit of trolling but it also challenges preconceived notions and has created a fiery debate. Those are positives in education.

Btw, "forced nazi youth movement" is a nice bit of work. :thumb:

IMO, we should remove the Pledge of Allegiance from schools. The God thing bothers me a little, but I'm with 93', forcing children to listen to it every morning and participate in the pledge seems super creepy.

And as much as I liked my co-workers, the teachers I used to work with would get annoyed when I didn't recite the pledge. They kept telling me teachers were required to recite it...and I kept asking for proof of that rule. Surprisingly, I was never given it.

And even Houndawgy is right on with one of his points. The Pledge went on for many decades without mention of God, and suddenly a pen and ink change was made in the 50s (I think). Without doing a bunch of research, because I'm sitting on the beach, shivering and smoking a cigar, I bet whoever got that worked in was similar (but obviously opposite agenda) troll.

Whenever this country can get each group with an agenda to get over itself, we can maybe start to move forward. I, as a member of the group that seems to be earmarked for neutralization, have accepted my fate finally, and I wish the besmirched groups would all do their little dances, call themselves whole, and start getting the fuck on with being Americans so we can move forward instead of rehashing all their beefs for decades. What more do they want?

Exhibit A. Easily trolled, even by high school kids. Maybe you should hang at AGS and wait for your nuts to drop before you come here. :coffee:
