How Do...............

Post by ALPHAGRIZ1 »

Liberals that hunt, like guns/ammo and access to "public land" vote for anyone with a "D" next to their name?

I have a few lib friends from Butte that are all the above and huge union guys yet continue to cut their own throat every time they step into a voting booth......... :?

When has your right to hunt been restricted?

Liberals support the environment, and keeping the land public. The GOP wants to privitize all public land.

So a better question is - why would anyone that enjoys the outdoors, who likes to hunt and or fish, ever vote for a Republican? You are voting against your own interests

Try hunting down south or on the EC(b). Everything is private and you need permission or to pay for rights to hunt certain areas. WTF.

And Republicans want to make all of the West just like that. They want to privitize all federal lands.

You are confusing issues. There is very little gun control in many areas of the South, but also very little public areas set aside for hunting, and certainly none that you don't need permitting, drawings, etc for. There are many, many private hunting clubs in the South.

And Texas - some of the most lax gun laws in the nation. Very little public land for any outdoor pursuit.

I love my public lands even more. And, I fully support the rights of all Americans to hunt and fish.

Hunters are some of the best conservationists out there - most recognize you have to make sure you actually have something to hunt. (Alphie of course is the exception).

Not sure about other states, but Georgia has well over a 100 of what we call Wildlife Management Areas (WMA). These are PRIVATELY held lands where the owners have given hunting and fishing rights to the state for the public to use free of charge. The state patrols and maintains the areas, and sets the ground rules. Several of them have gun and archery ranges, and I have visited and hunted many of them myself.

jon, there are tons of birders who take advantage of these areas as well. The one just a few miles from my house just built observation decks, walking trails, etc.

There is a healthy relationship between private landowners and the state when it comes to WMA's, and John Q being able to access hunting and fishing areas.

That's good to know. Hunters and Birders have a lot of common interests/goals (although disputes over managing land primarily for white-tailed deer causes some conflict).

This doesn't sit just a bit weird with you?

I have a friend in Georgia and he pays $500 and $2200 for hunting privileges on some neighboring properties. Both are for hogs, deer (which are kinda like big dogs).. Sorry if I ruffled some of you's feathers, but more importantly to Alpha.

Sorry Alpha for fucking up your thread. I will buy you a fireball and a few beers next time we meet up. :thumb:

The GOP here are huge proponents of land and water conservation. Sucks to be wrong.

Sucks to be in South Carolina... :kisswink:

Out West, the GOP wants to privatize all government land - sell it all off. There are even dozens of GOP Congressmen that want to sell off the National Parks, like Grand Canyon.

South Carolina is nice. We're working hard to preserve our natural beauty. The South Carolina Conservation Bank Act, from 2002 through November 2012, had conserved 74,388 acres of isolated wetlands, 2,188 acres of Carolina Bays, and 192.4 miles of river/creek frontage.

It doesn't have to be partisan. Liberal old Washington State partners with groups like DU to protect and enhance natural areas. Two of the biggest hippies I know are members of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Donks hunt, conks defend wilderness….
