The people who were on the ground have backed up his claim that it was a full blown riot, military, tanks in the streets, etc. The video from CBS and CNN at the time backs it up. On CNN, Eric Engberg claimed it was a tame riot, no sirens, no gunfire, etc. However, from his own lips on the CBS story, he says there was gunfire, teargas, battles between the police/military and rioters. Dan Rather confirmed it back in 1982. Even then the NY Times reported that people died in the riot.
It's over, you lost...this "story" has run it's course, and it didn't even get out of the gate. It got as much play as the chick with genital warts on her tongue. Drink a little Ensure and take a nap. When the nurse wakes you up in the morning it will be all over.
