DHS Budget Showdown

Post by 93henfan »

My timing is impeccable. Just left DoD, the agency hardest hit by the sequestration showdown/shutdown.

Now I'm with DHS and they are the latest congressional budget dog and pony show. Money runs out Friday. Might get another retro-paid vacation. :coffee:

Well, at least your agency is divesting itself of your program. Looks like i'll be working directly for DHS in a few months. :geek: :ohno:

I'm absolutely crapping my pants that they won't be able to keep us safe from extremist right wing groups that are all over the place and always plotting violent attacks.

The Republican House has passed a bill that fully funds DHS but blocks Obama's massive illegal immigrant amnesty.

The democrats are filibustering the bill in the Senate. If the democrat minority allows a vote (or if the republicans use the nuclear option) then Obama will veto it all to protect his amnesty for up to 5 million illegal immigrants.

Obama and the democrats are going to be out in full force along with their allies in the liberal mainstream media blaming Republicans for the shutdown. To counter this Republicans need to hammer the issue in front of every camera and reporter that:
"We have passed a bill to fully fund DHS but the democrats are blocking it for protect amnesty for 5 million illegal immigrants."
"The democrats are more concerned about giving amnesty to 5 million illegal immigrants than funding DHS and protecting the nation's security."

It's not political grandstanding. It's an effort to stop a policy they disagree with. As the post to which you responded indicates, the GOP bill would fund DHS for all the things that it's important to fund DHS for.

The Democrats are willing to reject that funding in order to preserve what Obama wants to do with respect to illegal immigrants.

What the Republicans are doing is completely legitimate. It's a manifestation of the separation of powers. It's an effort to check the Executive Branch. And the group stopping the process is the Democratic Party. If you agree that they SHOULD be willing to shut down DHS in order to preserve what Obama wants to do with immigrants fine.

What amazes me is that the Republicans always get the blame in situations like this. Like in this instance, for some reason, it'll be a situation in which the Democrats skate for being willing to "shut down" DHS in order to preserve Obama's effort to reward illegal behavior while the Republicans will be ripped for being willing to "shut down" DHS in order to check the power of the Executive Branch just as the framers of the Constitution intended. The power of the purse and all that.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Its all political grandstanding John. It really is. In fact its the only thing they have.

And you always get it wrong John, every time. :ohno: You see, I applaud the republicans for being willing to shut down the most useless of all the guvmint bureaucracies. Its way past time for these chickenshit conks to start walking their reduced spending talk; eliminating the DHS and the TSA would be an outstanding first step. Help them recover some of the tattered remnants of the credibility they haven't had in 40 years.... :thumb:

And as stated we don't need most of this government bloat. Let them shutdown and keep them that way.

Also good to see you in a chipper mood this time 93. Last shutdown you were freaking out thinking somehow you would be financially impacted by the "shutdown". :thumb:
