That is correct. And I also said when I so argued that that it is not an argument for the existence of God. It's simply saying that if the truth is that there is no God or "something else" there is no basis for some intrinsic morality.

Saying "if there is no God or something outside of and above us that sets the rules there is no intrinsic good or bad" is not saying "there is a God." It's simply stating what the situation is if there isn't one.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth

1. As a Christian, you cannot disregard the Old Testament.
D, you know very well that what Christianity is about is the Jesus character. And what the Jesus character said is pacifist stuff. For an example that includes reference to the Old Testament:
You have heard that it was said, 'AN EYE FOR AN EYE, AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.' "But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.
As I said, what would worry me about people truly following what Jesus is reported in Christian docuentation to have said is that we would just lay down and let everybody run over us.

Mohammed is a totally different deal.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth

Wrong again. The concept of "just wars" is prevalent in the New Testament.

The Jesus character was not a pacifist.

How about actually reading the bible before you chime in?

D, maybe you should first try to fully understand the "just war" concept.

Nowhere does it justify war for the purpose of expansion, subjugation, or conversion. Nowhere.

I dont agree with all of the just war concept, bit one thing is certain- it has no analogy to what ISIS is doing.

Shame on you- moral relativism is a liberal's retreat - but this goes even farther than that.

One group of Muslims in Norway plans to form a "ring of peace" around a synagogue in Oslo on Saturday. On a Facebook page promoting the event, the group explained its motivations. Here's a translated version of the invite:

Islam is about protecting our brothers and sisters, regardless of which religion they belong to. Islam is about rising above hate and never sinking to the same level as the haters. Islam is about defending each other. Muslims want to show that we deeply deplore all types of hatred of Jews, and that we are there to support them. We will therefore create a human ring around the synagogue on Saturday 21 February. Encourage everyone to come!

According to the Times of Israel, Ervin Kohn, a leader of Oslo's small Jewish community, had agreed to allowing the event on the condition that more than 30 people show up — a small gathering would make the effort look "counter-productive," Kohn said. Close to 1,000 people have indicated on Facebook that they will attend.

"We think that after the terrorist attacks in Copenhagen, it is the perfect time for us Muslims to distance ourselves from the harassment of Jews that is happening," 17-year-old event organizer Hajrad Arshad said in an interview with Norwegian television.

"If someone wants to attack the synagogue, they need to step over us first," posted another of the event's organizers on Facebook.

Uh, was simply addressing StCIDe's oft repeated lie that the Jesus character was a pacifist, which he was not.

Isis beheading are horrendous as are our drone strikes and our perpetual and sometimes illegal wars.

I have read the Bible. Give me an example of something in the new Testament you view as instrucing Christian people to engage in "just wars" and we can discuss it. Before you do know that I do not look at Revelation as instructing anybody to do anything.

Most especially, find me some place where the Jesus character instructs anybody do engage in "just war."

As I said: I think the biggest difficulty "Bible Believing" Christians have is explaining how they can really be looking at the New Testament as instructing them as to how to live their lives and still support having the kind of military we have or even support having our nation defend itself militarily at all.

I've done all I can do to educate you and Cid. Reading it is one thing, understanding what it says is the key.

Hell just look at the actions and behaviors of the main christian sects. They've been doing horrendous shit, some worse than Isis for centuries. They used biblical messages to justify it. They do it now with gays.

Are they worse now? Look at the scoreboard.

Aaaand therefore we come right back to what I said before- who are we to judge?

Let ISIS do what they want, right?

Because there can be no other motivation for your argument. Unless you are just making it for argument's sake.

On half of that, we agree.

Other than it's amazing, fun, and sad (all that same time) to point out how hypocritical and dumb some of the American public can be regarding foreign policy and war.

I'm not saying that; we can always keep buying from the Chinese who have a near-monopoly, as long as they will sell to us. We spend trillions maintaining the ability to take what we want when we want and we've gone to war quite recently to grab resources from other countries. Why stop now? We'll be in the area anyway for TAPI. :coffee:
