I think he screwed up on this one but if I were to bet I'd bet he's got an IQ at least 15 points higher than that of our current President. And I'm not kidding. I'd make that bet for a modest sum of something like $100 and feel pretty darned confident of winning.

And yes ethnicity plays a role in me saying that. Someone of Jindal's ethnicity isn't going to be getting preferential treatment as a member of an "under represented minority" in university admissions and such. It's an "over represented minority." Whatever he did he had to do without getting special consideration for being in an ethnic group that doesn't do well unless it gets special consideration.

Another part is his history. He's a Rhodes Scholar (again, without having benefitted from being a member of an "under represented minority") who was appointed Secretary of a State Department at 25 years old. Obama can't hold his jock strap when it comes to pure intellect.

That is not entirely inaccurate. Just as there are no-go places in the US. There's one just a couple miles from the White House... its called Anacostia.

In seriousness though- there ARE in fact neighborhoods in France, the banlieus, that are increasingly hostile to non-Muslims. Don't even think of being a cop or a Jew and going into one. Sounds like Jindal engaged in some exaggerated hyperbole, but it isn't like he said Paris was going to tip over and capsize. But sure- it is good mileage to the lefty crowd I guess.

1. Saying that denying human activity is a significant contributor to climate change is the same thing as being a flat farther is nonsense and shows a lack of understanding of how science works. Neither climate nor weather are even close to deterministic systems, and there are sources of variation that are not understood or known. The study of climate change and how certain things affect global temperatures are based on observational studies and not experiments.

2. Bacteria attaining resistance to antibiotics is not in any way comparable to the process by which single, anuclear cells over time become organisms with trillions of cells, huge genomes, and complex organ systems. People that use bacterial antibiotic resistance make it self-evident evolution can occur on the grand scale doesn't know what they are talking about and I don't think any evolutionary biologist would tell you that's a good way to argue with a creationist.

3. Being religious or a creationist doesn't preclude having an understanding of scientific reasoning or the process itself. It certainly won't make someone a violent fanatic or even fundamentalist.

My knowledge of science would make the knowledge of most "pro-science" people seem like a children's book by comparison. That's not me paying myself a compliment, that's the sad state of affairs of today's America. A lot of people that like to get up on their high horse and talk about how creationists are going to turn our kids into fundamentalist zombies often don't understand those 3 things (among many other things) and are far less knowledgeable than they think they are.

I think teaching creationism is a waste of time, not just in a science classroom but any classroom. The difference between you and me, though, is that I don't think it's some egregious capital crime against children or science.

If a physics teacher lectured about the many-worlds hypothesis no pro-science crusader would pitch a temper tantrum even though there's no way to falsify at least some versions of the theory. Same thing with dark matter or any number of theories you could concoct. Even if I were to lecture about dualism in a neuroscience class some might complain I'm wasting time but it wouldn't create a s***storm that creationism would just about anywhere. It only becomes evil and dangerous when it's associated with religious belief.

Doesn't mean you have to agree with him. I disagree with people who I think are a lot smarter than me all the time. But it's good to stand back and realize it when someone who is very intelligent looks at things differently than you do.
