I think he screwed up on this one but if I were to bet I'd bet he's got an IQ at least 15 points higher than that of our current President. And I'm not kidding. I'd make that bet for a modest sum of something like $100 and feel pretty darned confident of winning.

And yes ethnicity plays a role in me saying that. Someone of Jindal's ethnicity isn't going to be getting preferential treatment as a member of an "under represented minority" in university admissions and such. It's an "over represented minority." Whatever he did he had to do without getting special consideration for being in an ethnic group that doesn't do well unless it gets special consideration.

Another part is his history. He's a Rhodes Scholar (again, without having benefitted from being a member of an "under represented minority") who was appointed Secretary of a State Department at 25 years old. Obama can't hold his jock strap when it comes to pure intellect.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo told CNN anchor Christiane Amanpour on Tuesday that the city plans to sue Fox News for its "prejudiced" coverage of the city.

"When we're insulted, and when we've had an image, then I think we'll have to sue," Hidalgo told Amanpour in the interview. "I think we'll have to go to court, in order to have these words removed."

"The image of Paris has been prejudiced, and the honor of Paris has been prejudiced," she added.

No, he's just uninformed like most Fox viewers. They rescinded their comments on no go zones two days before Jindals remarks.

Well, obviously, you're saying that if he'd have been watching Fox News he'd have known that they rescinded their comments before he made his remarks.

I'll have to wait and see in any case. Could be that one month from now we'll be saying there were, effectively, "no go zones" after all.

You know how that goes.

You have Bobby Jindal and Barack Obama in a room and have them each take an IQ test and Jindal is going to blow Obama away. It's not going to be close. That's the bottom line with respect to the question of whether or not Jindal is a "tard" or not.

John your "hit rate" on these kinds of things has been incredibly LOW lately... you might want to slow down patting yourself on the back so hard and just let things play themselves out - after all Booby Jindal is the guy who PUSHED creationism into the science departments at schools in Louisiana - Because of "genius" Jindal Creationism is taught as "SCIENCE" in your stupid fucking state John...

I didn't hear his remarks, but what I have heard is that he said that there are no-go neighborhoods in France, right? Places where the local Muslim population will throw rocks at you and set your car on fire if you go there, right?

That is not entirely inaccurate. Just as there are no-go places in the US. There's one just a couple miles from the White House... its called Anacostia.

In seriousness though- there ARE in fact neighborhoods in France, the banlieus, that are increasingly hostile to non-Muslims. Don't even think of being a cop or a Jew and going into one. Sounds like Jindal engaged in some exaggerated hyperbole, but it isn't like he said Paris was going to tip over and capsize. But sure- it is good mileage to the lefty crowd I guess.

Hell, we even have Clitz talking about religion and Louisiana within the first ten posts of a thread about the backlash over a claim that Muslims are shutting down certain neighborhoods in France. SO I guess there really ISN'T anything to see here if even our wise old Harvard mind gets so easily distracted.

It's not about Islam at all apparently.

Your ability to make sarcasm is all fun and games and I know its all you've got left so I understand
But the rest of America would like to move OUT of the dark ages - not usher it back in

Children are vulnerable and critical thinking is a learned process (that you never got the chance at)

Nobody wants to deny a familys right to brainwash their children - its your right
But it shouldn't get mixed up with what actual science is

Actual science is an important process for children to learn and understand
For precisely these same reasons we are at constant violent odds with Islam
Islam rejects science and logic and dismisses it as against Gods will

Okay Chizzy, I'll bite…

I thought we were at odds with Islam because of our policy in the Middle East, fighting for rare-Earth mining rights and oil and all of that? What's this about us getting involved because they're violent religious fanatics? Are you going to change your tune and tell me they hate our freedoms now? :?

By the way, as far as science literacy goes, I know enough to know that...

1. Saying that denying human activity is a significant contributor to climate change is the same thing as being a flat farther is nonsense and shows a lack of understanding of how science works. Neither climate nor weather are even close to deterministic systems, and there are sources of variation that are not understood or known. The study of climate change and how certain things affect global temperatures are based on observational studies and not experiments.

2. Bacteria attaining resistance to antibiotics is not in any way comparable to the process by which single, anuclear cells over time become organisms with trillions of cells, huge genomes, and complex organ systems. People that use bacterial antibiotic resistance make it self-evident evolution can occur on the grand scale doesn't know what they are talking about and I don't think any evolutionary biologist would tell you that's a good way to argue with a creationist.

3. Being religious or a creationist doesn't preclude having an understanding of scientific reasoning or the process itself. It certainly won't make someone a violent fanatic or even fundamentalist.

My knowledge of science would make the knowledge of most "pro-science" people seem like a children's book by comparison. That's not me paying myself a compliment, that's the sad state of affairs of today's America. A lot of people that like to get up on their high horse and talk about how creationists are going to turn our kids into fundamentalist zombies often don't understand those 3 things (among many other things) and are far less knowledgeable than they think they are. :coffee:

The "Smartest guy in the room" response - thanks for that

My point is the scientific process (scientific method) shouldn't be taught in the same class as Religion
One is about processes and understanding data through logical steps
The other is about a Santa Clause type character manipulating the lives of all humans based on a naughty or nice list and a myriad of other archaic nonsense

These things can't be presented in the same light - like similar logical options on a multiple choice test
No..!!! They are as far apart as two ideas can get
And trying to give faith the same credibility as the Scientific Process is slimy and dishonest

You don't get to put Santa Clause in the same class room with logic... Sorry nice try

I think teaching creationism is a waste of time, not just in a science classroom but any classroom. The difference between you and me, though, is that I don't think it's some egregious capital crime against children or science.

If a physics teacher lectured about the many-worlds hypothesis no pro-science crusader would pitch a temper tantrum even though there's no way to falsify at least some versions of the theory. Same thing with dark matter or any number of theories you could concoct. Even if I were to lecture about dualism in a neuroscience class some might complain I'm wasting time but it wouldn't create a s***storm that creationism would just about anywhere. It only becomes evil and dangerous when it's associated with religious belief.

Smartest guy in the room? He who is right is right, not he who is the smartest. Being more scientifically literate than most Americans isn't a huge accomplishment, anyways.

That's because it's just a hypothesis; they wouldn't be saying it is the way things are. And if a better hypothesis comes along they'll adjust.

Nice Reach...
We're talking about high school - you know - where 14 and 15 year old kids are
Nobody is teaching Parallel Universe Theory to teenagers in Louisiana I assure you that..!
Nor is it on the table for negotiations on competing theories for study

Again:
Nice reach but not quite

What I'm talking about is an entire state validating an obvious religious belief as a science
and using the school system as the hammer to pound that nail - that's what I'm talking about

It's nauseating and frankly should be embarrassing...

If you go to the Esquire article at http://www.esquire.com/features/bobby-j ... can-1008-3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; you can find this quote:
Because Bobby felt beholden to his father, he did the double major, twenty hours a semester. He eventually forfeited his place in the PLME program, feeling it wasn't fair to tie up a coveted slot when he was ambivalent. Nevertheless, he would still be accepted into medical school and law school at Harvard and Yale. He'd turn down both to accept a Rhodes scholarship to Oxford, where he'd study public-health policy.
Now, bear in mind that he is NOT a member of an "under represented minority." His minority (Asian Indian) is OVER represented. So he didn't get any special consideration.
