Great opportunity to expand your minds, see the other side's point of view, and (wait for it) "engage in productive dialogue."

I watch. I used to watch Clinton's SOTU not liking him at all but come away thinking he was alright. I watched Obamas first one where he attacked the Supreme Court. And was put off. The pomp and circumstance is interesting. But I can't watch someone lying to the public openly. Without charisma.

It's a waste of time IMO. It's generally about 3 minutes of content and 57 minutes of filler, so I'll just get the Cliff's notes version Wednesday AM on the speech and the Republican response.

Edit: Here's ABC's preview. Go watch a movie instead. You're welcome. 8-)

I might watch. More likely to read about the reaction here tomorrow. Much more entertaining.

Obama's SOTU speeches always came off less of words of a leader and more words of a middle school class president candidate.

I think I'll go to the HS BB game instead. I just hope Joni doesn't laugh during her Republican response.

I rarely to never watch SOTUs regardless of who is in office. They are pure theater and nothing else. If they were substantive I might watch, but they haven't been substantive since the time of George Washington.

Let me give you guys a sneak peak (spoiler alert).

1. Cherry-picked stats showing the economy is in amazing shape. There's a lot of work to do, republicans must work with me so I can continue to work my magic.

2. Taking credit for falling gas prices. Citing latest natural disasters and weather anomalies as examples of climate change destroying the world. Fracking and corn fuel and wind and solar will save us…we don't need no stinkin' nuclear power.

3. The story of Joe Schmoe who is alive today because of the ACA. The ACA and the means used to pass it are beyond reproach because of this. Why do ACA opponents hate the poor and people with preexisting conditions?

4. How great the free CC plan will be, with no mention of how to pay for it and that states will probably have to cut money from 4-year schools to pay for it and the federal government will tax college funds.

5. Something about immigration and a story about some hispanic that became a scientist or neurosurgeon.

6. Blah blah blah equal work for equal pay blah blah blah women's health care abortion War on Wimmyn™. Systematic extermination of young black men by police.

I'm gonna guess that he's going to attempt to promote an increase in the federal gas tax and increasing subsidies to alt. energy projects. "This is an opportunity that we cannot waste."

Of course the leftists will applaud this. :coffee:

15-cent increase in federal gas tax proposed
With Congress facing a major shortfall in transportation funding next year, a House bill introduced Wednesday would raise the federal gasoline tax by 15 cents per gallon to close the gap.

Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) announced the proposal at a news conference, flanked by an array of labor, construction and business leaders. It would raise the federal tax on gas to 33.4 cents per gallon and on diesel to 42.8 cents.
It will end up being MUCH more than that, especially with the state average already being $0.30/gal. $3 a gal became the new norm by 2012, we'll be back there shortly.

I used to watch these all the time, especially back in the Clinton days, but I'm at SOTU fatigue really. It started with W and has just kept going with Obama - these things haven't been useful in quite some time and when I do watch them I just feel like I've wasted an hour of my time. They've turned into political rallies and gotcha moments and have less and less substance as time goes on. For that kind of stuff, I can just read a few reviews from biased sources on each side of the aisle to get the gist of what was said. And frankly, most of the stuff doesn't get acted on anymore anyway, hence why we've probably resorted to trying to get a few good taglines in there anymore. I think Obama's not going to change anything at this point in his Presidency, so I can always hold out hope for whomever wins in 2016 to maybe liven these things up again.

Not to sound like spandos but, how'd camera's get the exact moment he yelled, "you lie!" Maybe there are camera's on the audience just in case something happens.
