Hell, everyone receives those things from the government. I just didn't know they were now called subsidies.

However, I would like to know how much the government invests in oil production. All this time I thought the oil companies paid for the leases, the equipment, labor, land, R&D, compliance costs, shipping, supplies, etc.

The American taxpayer pays for all that shit, Duncey, in the form of tax loopholes and corporate welfare!!!

And, if the field washes out with no oil, they get an R&D write off!

Obama actually said that unemployment benefits would be more beneficial to the economy and create more jobs than the pipeline would. Either Obama is incredibly stupid (as I believe) or he thinks everyone else is incredibly stupid (also something that I believe).

He is and always has been a guy who has NO business being President. I wouldn't say he's "stupid." I'm sure he's got a higher than average IQ. But I don't think it's THAT high. I think it likely he'd never have gotten into Ivy League schools if he wasn't a member of an "under represented minority" and that thing about him being the "smartest person in the room" in most of the rooms he's in is a total joke.

I think the big problem, though, is that he's a liberal extremist and objective analysis has no place in his decision process. He decides what he wants to do. If objective analysis coincides with what he wants to do, that's great. But if it doesn't it doesn't matter. He'll just create another analysis to do or not do what he wanted to do or not do to begin with.

I realize that is not unique among politicians. But I think he is an extreme example.

And my opinion is that the general public perception of the damage done when such things happen greatly exceeds the reality. Like even something like the BP oil spill thing. I live in the impacted region and also worked on that a lot. For a while there my life was all BP oil spill all the time.

And you know what? If you had lived in South Louisiana and spent lots of time in the marshes all your life, gone into a coma in February 2010 before it happened, then woke up now and went into the marshes again you'd never even know it happened unless somebody told you.
