Both INTs were on 3rd downs and were 35-40 yards from the line of scrimmage so almost equivalent to a 3rd down punt. Not great but could be worse.

Nice drive by the Colts probably just put this game out of reach. Most damage was done on the ground and chewed up a lot of clock. 24-13 with under 5 minutes to go.

Colts D holds on 4th down. Game over. Great game by the Colts.

May as well get this started: Is Manning done? Will he come back for another year? Clearly he didn't have the arm to hit anything down the field today.

He can't. Thirty minutes of his day revolves around trolling the trolls and being "superfan" screamingeagle

Should he retire, vs. will he. I think he should, but I guess whether or not he does or not revolves around who the Broncos keep and let who they let go, both coaches and players.

I wouldn't be surprised if P. Manning were named OC/starting QB after Gase leaves....

Only other QB currently on their roster is Brock Osweiler who, in 3 years, is 17 of 30 for 159 yards, 1 TD and 0 INTs and really only started 1 year in college plus a game the season before.

I don't think there are many if any good free agent QBs this year. Way to prepare yourself for when your 38 year old QB who has been in bad shape retires (if he does)

So how come no one is talking about Romo throwing a thirty yard prayer on 4th and 2 instead of going for something a little more probable?

Actually I have thought a lot about that. I don't understand why they went for that instead of just the first.

Speed option or load option would have been a better choice...even with a quarterback with zero mobility. Actually, given Romo, load option would probably have been better than speed option....

Excellent set of games this weekend.

First, the Ravens really should have won as their Oline was dominating the Pats' Dline all game. Alas, their pass D couldn't hold up (ie tackling issues) :ohno:

The Hawks game went like most hawks games this year: Hawks O and D keep the game close for 3 quarters and then pull away in the 4th. And my man, Mr. Kam Chancellor, helped to create a small earthquake during his pick 6. Plus, it was nice to see him get some exercise on the art of blocking field goals. ;)

Regarding the call in the Dallas game, I agree with the call but do not agree with the rule. This was a similar play to where Calvin Johnson caught a td pass a couple years back but placed the ball on the ground while getting up and the refs ruled it incomplete. Hopefully, they tweak the rule in the offseason because imo that was a catch and should have been marked down at the 1 yard line.

Finally, I do not think it's time for Manning to retire. If anything, he was overthrowing his WRs, not underthrowing. They should draft a QB and groom him if they don't think Osweiller is the answer for a year and let Manning retire after next season. Also, I don't think Manning is retiring anyway since he's close to achieving the all time passing yardage record where he needs about 2200 more yards.

I don't remember the entire situation, but was there a safety blitz on that play? If so, and Romo knew he had Dez 1on1 with Shields then I guess that's who he trusted the most to make a play instead of waiting for things to unfold underneath.

The problem is Manning isn't capable of beating the top quality defenses anymore...
Sure the Bronco's beat the average teams
But when they play the cream of the NFL they lose (They even got Handled by the Bengals)

Do you really think Manning will be better next year - more mobile in the pocket - and throw with more zip..?

The Bronco's have CAP issues and a slew of free agents
THIS WAS THE YEAR - they even said that much in the preseason "We must win this year, Superbowl or bust"

I've noticed a lot of QBs do that on third or fourth down. We saw that at least once with Tre Roberson yesterday. Jordan Johnson also did that a bunch this past season for the Griz. There's a good chance you'll get 1 on 1 coverage in that situation so it's often worth the gamble, but that probably wasn't the time in the game to do it.

Personally, I don't think Osweiller is the answer so they are almost forced to bring him back despite his problems. In addition, he won't be playing the NFC West next year so that's already an easier schedule. I think they need to clearly establish a running game to take pressure off of him and reduce his attempts/game. If the defense plays the same next year as this year (top 5), then I'm sure denver fans would be happy with one more chance at a superbowl before the team needs to be blown up (due to cap issues).

I'm so happy. Even dinner will taste better tonight. :D
Difference is this cost them the game while the Lions still had time last week.
That call likely cost the Lions the game. Up 20-17, instead of 1st and 10 at the Dallas 31 after 10 plays into a drive that started at the Lions own 5 yard line, it was 4th and 1 at the Dalas 46. The way the Lions were moving the ball that drive they would have gotten at least 3, maybe 7 (which would have sealed it). Either way, Dallas wouldn't have gotten the ball back with as much time, nor would they have gotten the ball at their own 41 after the Detroit delay of game followed by the shanked 10 yard punt.

SuperHornet wrote:Personally, I don't think the "going to the ground" rule applies because Bryant took THREE steps in moving toward the goal line. Accepting that it DOES apply only makes the situation worse for the NFL because the ball never touched the ground. The impact in the area of the ball was strictly on the ARM, NOT the ball. The ball went straight into the air; it did NOT strike the ground. No pass is incomplete until the ball touches the ground. Bryant actually re-caught the ball. And where was he when he re-caught it? Oh, yeah, he was on his back IN THE END ZONE.

So either way you wanna take that play, the zebras robbed the Cowboys of the game-winning touchdown. Dean Blandino is a freaking idiot....

Romo had #11 streaking across the middle of the field on the other side of the first down marker 10 yards from him, pretty much wide open as the nearest defender was 2 yards behind him. Go back and watch the replay, should have been a really simple 4th down conversion

Their season ends in Green Bay in two weeks. This won't be a playoff of surprises. Seattle and New England in the Super Bowl. Maybe the Steelers make a little noise and Denver doesn't make the AFC title game. That might be all the surprises we get. Dallas doesn't have a prayer outside of likely beating Detroit at home next week.
Just bumping this, although truth be told, it didn't take a lot of expertise to see the inevitable of a New England/Seattle Super Bowl. I did get the who wrong as to who would knock off Denver, but really, that didn't matter as Denver and Manning were never going to win in Foxboro anyway.

I hate to bother you with actual facts - but I insist
Below are the top ranked defenses and offenses in the NFL (right off NFL.com)

Add to that that the Colts have beaten exactly ONE team this season with a winning record (ONE)
And it is very likely they will finish the 2014 season having beaten only ONE winning team

2014 NFL Top Ranked Defenses
1 Seattle Seahawks
2 Kansas City Chiefs
3 Detroit Lions
4 Buffalo Bills
5 Arizona Cardinals
6 Baltimore Ravens
7 Houston Texans
8 New England Patriots
9 Cleveland Browns
10 San Francisco 49ers

2014 NFL Top Ranked Offenses
1 Green Bay Packers
2 Denver Broncos
3 Philadelphia Eagles
4 New England Patriots
5 Dallas Cowboys
6 Indianapolis Colts
7 Pittsburgh Steelers
8 Baltimore Ravens
9 New Orleans Saints
10 Seattle Seahawks

You'll notice there are only 3 teams with both top -10 ranked Offense and Defense
Seahawks
Patriots
Ravens

And the Patriots just beat the Ravens

Oh boy, regular season stats! :coffee:

Joe Flacco had his way with the Patriots' D for pretty much that entire game-their D-line got absolutely no pressure on him.

I'm not saying the Colts are (or should) be favored, but I'm pretty confident it won't be a walkover for NE. Carry on. :coffee:

I hear you... nobody is disrespecting your Colts
But the Ravens are a better team than the Colts

Note:
The last three times New England and Indianapolis played its been a walkover - so - it would be nice for a change if the Colts actually showed up for this game

I think you are wrong about this.

During the regular season, they beat Baltimore and Cincinnati both who had 10 wins and Houston with 9 wins (twice)

In the playoffs, they beat Cincinnati and Denver.

That is a total of 6 wins over 4 different teams with a winning record. I agree with you that NE should win easily but your facts were wrong if I read what you wrote correctly.
