All the good seafood is gone, except for a few joints in New England, Johno. It really is.JohnStOnge wrote:Well, you're of course free to adopt that posture. But there's really no reason to. And I might add that those who are familiar with such things could have predicted that (as I actually did during some conference calls). That's because before the BP thing ever happened there was comprehensive study of previous large oil spills and it was already clear that oil spills do not create a hazard to the health of seafood consumers. It's just not an issue.
Oil spills create a potential product quality issue. Somebody might get seafood that has an off taste to it. They do not create a health issue in terms of worrying about people who eat seafood from the impacted areas being harmed. They just don't.
But it's hard as hell to get people to understand that; especially when you have Environmental Groups spreading misinformation. And they DO do that. You people who don't realize just how bad Environmental Groups are about spreading misinformation just have no idea. You really don't.

Uh, no. It'll take sustained rains for extended periods of times to replenish the water supplies. One massive storm (where there's a ton of runoff) will alleviate the issue a tiny bit, but it's not even close to ending a years long drought.travelinman67 wrote:Drought's over...

Is California's water supply predominantly groundwater? I thought it was mostly surface water, and if so, the reservoirs in the area of this rain should get a huge boost.∞∞∞ wrote:Uh, no. Now that the drought is over, Cali can get back to its regularly scheduled rampant mudslides, wildfires, and earthquakes.

WAFJ. How does a giant area of California go from NO drought to SEVERE drought in roughly 6 weeks?

Because those 6 weeks is the wettest time of the year (historically at least). Basically if the state doesn't hit it's annual rainfall in that time frame, it is likely that drought conditions will follow.AZGrizFan wrote:

And a massive storm just pounded the entire state for the past couple days dropping a lot of rain on the coast (that sound you heard was a loud sigh of relief from the CA wine industry) and dropping snow in the Sierra. Another storm like this and we can forget about using the word "drought" for a good while.

Either you're more colorblind than me, or just retarded. The large swath you're referring to went from not drought to moderate drought, not severe.AZGrizFan wrote:

It is. Simplest visual: Groundwater is principally for farming, rural; Surfacewater for urban, golf courses, menudo, and to protect the freshwater fishies. Seriously, our reservoirs keep Californians alive. Rough estimate would put them close to 75% of normal by the end of next week.

Drought (n): (1) A prolonged period of scanty rainfall; (2) a prolonged shortage.Grizalltheway wrote:Fuck it, Z's a hydrologist, right?kalm wrote:

Going from "fine" to "exreme drought" in 6 weeks is a pretty fucking liberal view of "prolonged".

Fines and control. Gov. Moonbeam and the leftislature passed draconian "conservation" residential cutbacks with heavily funded enforcement and stiff penalties for violators...doesn't sunset til next July.AZGrizFan wrote:Drought (n): (1) A prolonged period of scanty rainfall; (2) a prolonged shortage.Grizalltheway wrote: Fuck it, Z's a hydrologist, right?

There's a virtual dragnet of water use enforcers driving around neighborhoods looking for residents watering theur landscaping, and utility billing (metered) water analysis: Water consumption MUST be reduced by 20%. ..First offense:Warning. Second offense: $250 fine. Third offense:$500 fine.
Our problem is the direct result of 45 years of liberal inaction and an explicit policy to prevent construction of water storage for "beneficial purpose", and repurposing existing water storage for "environmental protection".
Liberals CREATE the problems which subtract from positive public policy.
It's always about government accumulation of wealth and power.
