Fordham @ UNH

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

These two teams are close to even on paper so I'm going to pick New Hampshire because they've won 10 in a row while Fordham has underachieved against playoff-caliber teams. I'm not expecting a shootout because these teams' defenses match up comparatively well (passing teams whose primary weakness is run defense).

Here's my assessment of the matchups & my pick for the game:

      • Quarterbacks -- Fordham

        Running Backs - Fordham

        Receivers/TEs - Fordham

        Offensive Line - New Hampshire

        Defensive Line - New Hampshire

        Linebackers --- Fordham

        Secondary ---- New Hampshire

        Kicking ------ Fordham

        Punting ------ New Hampshire

        Return Teams - New Hampshire

        Kickoffs ------ New Hampshire

        • Fordham 24-35 New Hampshire

That's kind of an odd breakdown, Venus. Are you expecting UNH to win it on the strength of special teams alone? That's certainly possible, of course, but usually in modern football, the team with the better offense wins (assuming that they execute, of course).

I'm picking UNH to win because they're at home, they're on a roll, and Fordham hasn't played to their ability against high-quality teams.

Well he said unh has better O and D lines. I'll take that any day.

Fordham is dangerous, but have to go Unh only because of homefield.

I don't mean to say that Venus' conclusion is wrong. I just thought it was odd reasoning, that's all.

I don't have UNH losing until the semis, when EWU takes them out....

I want to believe Fordham is a really good team as I've noticed them piling up HUGE numbers on offense all year, but I just can't get past Villanova 50 - Fordham 6. Leads me to believe they are more like a bunch of those 9-1 Ivy teams of years gone by where they dominated a weak league but lost their only game outside of the Ivy/Patriot. I could see UNH winning by 20+.

I'll take Fordham and 15 1/2 for a sixer of craft brew, losers choice.

That was a very odd came due to an hour and 20 minute delay during the second quarter because of lightning.

It was 10-3 when the game broke, and Fordham had the ball near the red zone when the break came. Villanova came out of the break all fired up; Fordham didn't respond when the bell rang. I have no explanation as to why our guys didn't show up, but Villanova scored three TDs and a FG in the next eight minutes, to run the lead to 33-3 (missed PAT), and that was that.

Before the break, Villanova looked like the better team, but Fordham was playing a pretty gutty game. After the break, it was a runaway.

You can't put too much emphasis on one game, especially when the game is played under such unusual circumstances.

Fordham has the best offensive skill players UNH has seen all year. UNH needs to control the line, penetrate, get early pressure, and not leave Fordham's skill players any time to create.

I highly doubt that..

UNH played in the CAA where five of the teams would have taken Fordham to the woodshed! JMU, Richmond have far better skill players than Fordham.

That's just nonsense. Nebrich, Jones, Wetzel, Ajala, Light and Edmonds could start on any CAA team. They are all FBS talent and, collectively, they are the best set of skill players any CAA team would see all year.
