He does have some unfinished business here. Three championship games with no wins.

I've heard fan speculation that Hauck will apply either at Montana or Viking-Town.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

All I will say is, it is "possible" PSU will reach out to Hauck. Any available coach west of the Mississippi with prior coaching experience in the Big Sky should be considered by PSU. Word is that PSU won't look for a coach until the AD position is filled, however.SuperHornet wrote:I've heard fan speculation that Hauck will apply either at Montana or Viking-Town.

Always thought Hauck was a real dick-face. I kinda doubt he ends up somewhere back in the Big Sky. Interested to see if Pflu gets a shot at PSU.

Re: Hauck out at UNLV
The Hornet poster said he opted out of his last 2 years of his UNLV contract. Is this true? If so hard to imagine that he doesn't have his eye on one of those open spots. Does anyone (Griz and PSU posters) think either of those places would want him?

I'd rather not have Hauck back, personally, but I'd rather have him than some floated options (Kramer, Pflugrad, etc.).EWURanger wrote:Always thought Hauck was a real dick-face. I kinda doubt he ends up somewhere back in the Big Sky. Interested to see if Pflu gets a shot at PSU.
Pflugrad should be an OC and not a head coach, IMO.

I'd rather have Kramer than Hauck, but both would be good hires.Mvemjsunpx wrote:I'd rather not have Hauck back, personally, but I'd rather have him than some floated options (Kramer, Pflugrad, etc.).EWURanger wrote:Always thought Hauck was a real dick-face. Both have some history of running off guys they didn't recruit (or at least not treating them well). Delaney's recruiting classes have been really good (on paper, anyway), so that kind of behavior could be a problem.kalm wrote:I'd rather have Kramer than Hauck, but both would be good hires.Mvemjsunpx wrote:

Re: Hauck out at UNLV
As I said on the PSU board, 80-17 at Montana I think is enough for us to at least take a look at him. I doubt we can afford him, though. It may be moot, however. Wiewel has insisted that the new AD, whoever that is, will do the search for the football coach and if Hauck did opt out, I would think he knows where he is going already.SDHornet wrote:The Hornet poster said he opted out of his last 2 years of his UNLV contract. As any good manager would do. You get rid of people that aren't willing to put in what you are looking for. If they are quality recruits and tow the line then no good coach in his right mind tries to get rid of good talent IF they don't have attitude problems. Not sure what your deal is with weighing that fairly insignificant aspect so much in comparison to the overall but whatever their M.O. is it includes winning and in Kramer's case it's with programs on the way sub par side of Montana. Circumstances wouldn't let us get Kramer but if they did I'd be more happy with the hire than I ever have been.Mvemjsunpx wrote:Both have some history of running off guys they didn't recruit (or at least not treating them well). Re: Hauck out at UNLV
This is in large part speculation, but it's just that Hauck & Kramer come off to me as extremely arrogant & possessing something akin to a god complex & a demand for unswerving loyalty (I hate people like that). Kinda like: if you aren't "their guy," you don't mean shit to them. Kramer seems worse about this than Hauck—his early years with teams after alleged "purges" have been noticeably bad—but it's hard for me to really root for either of them. There are worse hires than Hauck, certainly, but I have to believe there are better ones too. The Griz would be best served, IMO, but not hiring someone that will "shake things up." The "shaking" already happened… now it's time for stability.Ursus A. Horribilis wrote:As any good manager would do. You get rid of people that aren't willing to put in what you are looking for. I also believe that the "us against the world" mentality Hauck instilled in his team was counterproductive in the long run & may have led to some of the issues that came up in 2012. Don't get me wrong: he's not as much to blame for the sanctions & bad press as Pflugrad or O'Day (who stuck their fingers in their ears & hoped everything would go away), but I have concerns.
In addition, if the Griz do look at Hauck, there are two things to keep in mind: 1) The rest of the Big Sky is better & deeper than it was in the Hauck era; 2) Hauck somehow managed to do worse than his predecessor at UNLV.

Re: Hauck out at UNLV
I'm not an advocate for Hauck necessarily. He is a whole lot more arrogant than Kramer is and that comes from a non speculative casual environment type of knowledge of the two coaches. Kramer is human and makes mistakes but he is a good person that does expect and also rewards hard work.Mvemjsunpx wrote:This is in large part speculation, but it's just that Hauck & Kramer come off to me as extremely arrogant & possessing something akin to a god complex & a demand for unswerving loyalty (I hate people like that). Arrogance is in most cases a good thing for a coach to have in my mind so saying that as if it's a downer doesn't affect me too much. I agree that continued stability is the course that needs to be followed though. These are easy things to see though so I'm not so sure that any of the guys coming in would not continue down that path if they are task masters.
Pflu NOT holding players feet to the fire is to me a big reason some of the recruits that stayed somewhat within the boundaries fell outside of them with the change at the helm back then.

Re: Hauck out at UNLV
I don't see how the timing will work for this, which makes the Burton move all the more questionable. Unless PSU names an AD ASAP, there could be slim pickings for a coaching search the longer that takes. Of course maybe there is some backroom deal and there is already a coach in mind who is just sitting around waiting for it to be official.JALMOND wrote:As I said on the PSU board, 80-17 at Montana I think is enough for us to at least take a look at him. We have a similar issue in Sac. The university president is retiring, and we currently have an interim AD and "interim" HC. New president won't come on until the fall 2015, which most likely means a permanent AD won't be announced/hired until late spring/early summer 2016, which means a new HC might not be named/hired until winter 2016/spring 2017. Our HC issue is probably moot as I have a hard time seeing Sears not getting at least a 2-3 year deal after what he did this season. The "interim" tag has already been removed on our website.

Re: Hauck out at UNLV
I actually like the timing of it. To keep Burton on another year would have showed either an inability or an unwillingness to release him as coach, which would have further added to the speculation that we are not going to have football after next year. By letting him go this year and talk of a coaching search to resume after the AD is hired (either this week or next) to me shows a commitment from the administration to keep football around after next year, mainly due to the fact that whoever they hire would not want to coach for just one year.SDHornet wrote:I don't see how the timing will work for this, which makes the Burton move all the more questionable. Of course we could do a complete 180, but I have not heard anything concrete about NOT playing next year, unlike the talk coming out of Birmingham. If there was scuttlebutt about not playing, I'm sure it would have been leaked out by now.

Re: Hauck out at UNLV
Makes sense. Whatever happens I sure hope PSU keeps the program. A lot of similarities between our two universities and having PSU shut it down would be a terrible indicator for us as well.
