The United States had gone to war declaring it must destroy an active weapons of mass destruction program. Instead, American troops gradually found and ultimately suffered from the remnants of long-abandoned programs, built in close collaboration with the West.

It's great that we went to war to help destroy programs that were long abandoned. It would be like going to war to help destroy T'mans thought process.

BTW, the article links to an investigative NY Times article about Dutch CW chemical smuggler Van Anraat. There was NO U.S. GOVERNMENT involvement in the precursor shipments to Italy and Rotterdam.

NoBrains86, your assertions as to the reason for the post- 9/11 invasion of Iraq is a liberal meme, oft repeated, and completely disingenuous.Whereas Iraq , in direct and flagrant violation of the cease-fire, attempted to thwart the efforts of weapons inspectors to identify and destroy Iraq's weapons of mass destruction stockpiles and development capabilities, which finally resulted in the withdrawal of inspectors from Iraq on October 31, 1998;
I have now provided you with two links providing the second Bush Administration's rationale for initiating the Iraq War.
I don't expect you'll read either, as they prove your assertion is false.
I do not agree with the editing of the NY Times article's selective discussion.
One more time...read the title of the thread.
While your circle-jerk BF Kalm endorses ignorance as an appropriate social paradigm, it should be painfully apparent from your declining reading comprehension that ignorance leads to failure.

But again, the manufacturer of the weapons is irrelevant.
The Iraq Resolution which authorized military intervention specifically states the reasons which include:
That Iraq prevented UN inspectors from verifying Iraq's dismantling and disposal of chemical weapons, and Iraq's elimination of chemical and nuclear weapons, and program to develop those weapons.
The recovery of 4,990 chemical weapons including 500 viable mustard and sarin munitions at Al Muthanna (regardless of manufacture/origin or age), confirms the intent for our military action.
Bush, Cheney and Rumfeld were correct.

So many returning soldiers reported finding WMD's in Iraq, despite a "no WMDS" meme having become an accepted narrative by anti-Bush, anti-war protesters.
Now, NY Times confirms numerous incidents of WMD discoveries.
