The Eagles are 22-2 in their last 24 Big Sky games dating back to a 0-2 start in 2011.
The Eagles enter the game 5-1 after another Big Sky shootout in a 56-53 victory over Idaho State. Eastern is 2-0 in the Big Sky Conference as it defends the league title it won with an 8-0 record last season.
That game in 2012 knocked Eastern out of the No. 1 ranking in FCS, and was one of only five losses Vernon Adams Jr. has had in his 30 games as EWU's starter. This week, Eastern is one spot down the ladder, and will have to do it without Adams. He is out 3-6 weeks with two broken metatarsals in his right foot suffered against Idaho State on Oct. 4.
Southern Utah, meanwhile, advanced to last year's NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs, but is only 1-5 this season. Its first four losses included two losses to FBS teams, plus a pair to ranked FCS foes. The Thunderbirds opened league play with a 31-28 win over Weber State, then lost at Cal Poly 42-39 to slip to 1-1 in the league.
