Well, that about sums it up, since most Catholics are woefully ignorant of sex, sexuality and sexual identity. :coffee:

Possibly, but I'm dead on:

Pope and Cardinals Get a Crash Course on Sex

Breaking News - USA Today
VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis, cardinals and bishops from around the world have gotten an unexpected lecture on the joys of sex, from a Catholic couple brought in to talk about what makes a marriage last.

Ron and Mavis Pirola, parents of four from Sydney, Australia, told a Vatican gathering of some 200 prelates that great marriage boils down to great sex.

The couple, among a half-dozen to address the closed meeting Monday, told the prelates in a joint statement: "The little things we did for each other, the telephone calls and love notes, the way we planned our day around each other and the things we shared were outward expressions of our longing to be intimate with each other."

The audience of celibate men was a bit taken aback

Lets be careful not to pile all the Catholics together...
The European Catholics are actually fairly open minded and well adjusted to the modern world

European Catholics believe in Evolution for starters...
They're in a whole different head-space than your Average American Catholic

Agree if you leave out Italian Catholics. They are the most fucked of em all.

Lay Catholics are for the most part good people, and by "open minded" I assume you at least partially mean they're aware of their delusion and have thick skin/healthy sense of self-deprecating humor.

Spain and France too (as well as some Eastern Blocks)
Hmm. A quick Google reveals that while 51% of Frenchies identify as Catholic, only 5% attend mass regularly.

For Spain it's 69% and 14%. :?

Catholic in name only. They are not catholic.

The church is dead in Europe. Pope is desperately scrambling to adopt enlightened/secular positions on marriage and other Middle Ages, nonsensical church positions.

This is what a happens when orgs subscribe to the myth that there an absolute/divine source of morality.

1700 hundred years and their just starting to get it.

Better late than never I guess. :dunce:

They poll out as Catholics
Sure they don't believe that "church attendance" is meaningful (who does?)
But they are far (far) more open minded than American Catholics

They have 1600 years of first hand experience of church hypocrisy and brutal tyranny. You're being kind labeling/confusing/conflating open-mindeness with apathy.

Joe, should there be a non-religious test for public office?
No religious test for public office. Not in keeping with the spirit of the nation's principles and constitution.

However, just because the US was not founded as a Christian nation (or founded on any other specific faith) does not mean it is a "secular" nation. The fact is, from day one, generic references to God, as well as general requests for his blessings, have always been permitted and were even spoken by our founders.

Go to the Jefferson Memorial some day and read some of what Jefferson said published on its walls.

http://www.monticello.org/site/jefferso ... n-memorial" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So, if by "secular nation," you mean a nation which permits no government-sanctioned references to God, or allows no generic accommodations of religion, you are mistaken. We'd have to tear down the Jefferson Memorial. Ironic, no? There is no freedom from religion and, if the government takes action which represents a generic nod toward the faithful, that has always been permitted.
No, I said "non" religious test. Since it's ok to favor religion over non-religion and such. Can we at least make sure someone isn't an atheist before electing them?

Regarding secular nation and "generic nods" notwithstanding, we have no state religion, "God" does not occur in the founding documents, the government is supposed to be neutral in all matters pertaining to religion and non-religion. BTW, the word "favor" doesn't occur in the first amendment either).

There is fantastic freedom from religion in the US. You get to believe or not believe what you believe or don't believe. And others can't enforce their religious laws upon you (at least for the most part)

It's one of the things that makes us strong.
