Big Sky

IDST 53-56 EWU
UCD 14-23 PORTST
SUU 39-42 CP
MTST 59-56 SAC
NAU 17-24 NOCO
UMT 18-15 UND

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 16-26

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 8-9

Best Performance: (#13) Montana St. 59, Sacramento St. 56 - Bobcat QB Dakota Prukop accounts for a school-record 8 total touchdowns in helping MSU edge a Hornet squad that averaged over 10 yards-per-play.

Worst Performance: Northern Arizona 17, Northern Colorado 24 - Despite Chase Cartwright's heroics last week, the 'Jacks went back to Kyren Poe and watched him throw 3 picks. Two of those INTs were returned 80+ yards for touchdowns.

Most Surprising Result: Northern Colorado 24, Northern Arizona 17 - The Bears win turnovers 5-0 in pulling off their first Big Sky win in nearly 2 years.

Southland

LAM 24-21 ACU
UCA 49-39 SFA
HBU 8-31 UIW

    Overall: 15-23

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 8-9

Best Performance: (#11) Southeastern Louisiana 30, Northwestern St. 22 - 4 interceptions by the defense and 3 field goals by Ryan Adams (including a 55 yarder) help the Lions overcome an anemic offensive day.

Worst Performance: Houston Baptist 8, Incarnate Word 31 - The Huskies are whipped in the battle for the Southland basement.

Most Surprising Result: Abilene Christian 21, Lamar 24 - The Wildcats are 1-1 against FBS teams, but only 1-2 against FCS teams.

Missouri Valley

YSU 14-7 MIZST
SDKST 10-45 ILST
NDSU 17-10 WIU
SDK 10-41 SIU
UNI 19-20 INST

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 28-11

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 23-1

Best Performance: (#22) Illinois St. 45, (#9) South Dakota St. 10 - Marshaun Coprich scores 4 times while he and QB Tre Roberson combine for 325 rushing yards in a Redbird rout.

Worst Performance: (#9) South Dakota St. 10, (#22) Illinois St. 45 - Despite having Zach Zenner, the Jackrabbits are outrushed 331-139 by a lower-ranked team.

Most Surprising Result: Western Illinois 10, (#1) North Dakota St. 17 - The Leathernecks somehow run for 253 yards on the stout Bison D, but they couldn't find even a semblance of a passing game.

OVC

TSU 21-28 SEMO
UTM 14-38 JAXST
MUR 27-30 TTU (OT)
EKU 31-0 AP

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 13-17

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 6-9

Best Performance: Southeast Missouri St. 28, (#21) Tennessee St. 21 - The Redhawks gave up 505 yards to the struggling Tiger offense, but still pulled out a win thanks to vastly superior place kicking.

Worst Performance: Murray St. 27, Tennessee Tech 30 (OT) - Special teams were also the story here: the Hatch Attack outgained TTU 579-336 and won the turnover battle, yet still lost the game by missing 2 field goals, putting up a lousy punt average, and allowing a kick-return TD.

Most Surprising Result: Tennessee Tech 30, Murray St. 27 (OT) - The Golden Eagles were looking Austin-Peay-bad coming in, so they really needed this.

Pioneer League

MARIST 35-7 VALPO
DAY 54-48 DVDSN (5OT)
DRAKE 14-29 JU
BUT 49-41 STET
CAMP 31-24 MHEAD

Best Performance: Jacksonville 29, Drake 14 - Dolphins force 4 turnovers in beating Drake for just the 3rd. time in 14 tries.

Worst Performance: Valparaiso 7, Marist 35 - Crusaders allow 5 touchdowns to a Marist offense that had only scored 2 touchdowns on the season coming in.

Most Surprising Result: Dayton 54, Davidson 48 (5OT) - What's more surprising: a 5 overtime game, or the fact the Flyers needed 5 overtimes to beat Davidson. :?

Tomorrow: the rest of the playoff conferences.

    vs. FCS: 0-2
    Overall: 14-14

Best Performance: (#16) Fordham 42, Lafayette 18 - Rams rack up 524 yards and win easily despite going 1/8 on third down.

Worst Performance: Bucknell 15, Bryant 34 - R.J. Nitti throws 3 picks and gets sacked 5 times as his Bison suffer their first loss of the season.

Most Surprising Result: Bucknell 15, Bryant 34 - Bucknell had actually won 9 of their last 10 games coming in, so a loss like this to a nondescript opponent was pretty surprising.

NEC

wlib 13-39 DUQ
MONM 51-20 RMU
abu 0-26 WAG
BUCK 15-34 BRY
SACHRT 10-7 UD

    vs. FCS: 2-1
    Overall: 11-16

Best Performance: Sacred Heart 10, (#24) Delaware 7 - The Pioneers didn't exactly make the most of their 407 yards, but they did hold Delaware QB Tyler Hurley to just 155 yards of total offense.

Worst Performance: Robert Morris 20, Monmouth 51 - Colonials give up 523 yards and fumble 8 times, losing 4 of them.

Most Surprising Result: Bryant 34, Bucknell 15 - At 4-1, the Bulldogs are off to their best start since moving up.

CAA

JMU 31-28 ALB
NOVA 41-20 MAINE
BROWN 20-13 URI
SACHRT 10-7 UD
SBU 14-3 TOW
RICH 46-39 LIB (2OT)
UNH 48-14 ELON

  • NConf Record: 1-2
    Overall: 22-21

    vs. FCS: 1-2
    Overall: 20-10

Best Performance: (#20) Richmond 46, Liberty 39 (2OT) - Seth Fisher catches 2 TDs to open the game, then runs in 2 TDs in the extra periods in a tough Spider win.

Worst Performance: Rhode Island 13, Brown 20 - Rhody falls for the 4th. straight time in the battle of Rhode Island, their worst streak in the series since the late '70s/early '80s.

Most Surprising Result: (#24) Delaware 7, Sacred Heart 10 - I actually picked this "upset," but it's worth noting it was Delaware's first home loss in a non-conference game since 2006.

Big South

MONM 51-20 RMU
RICH 46-39 LIB (2OT)
CHAR 24-27 GWEBB
CCU 37-31 FUR (2OT)
WCU 14-19 PRESBY

  • NConf Record: 4-1
    Overall: 23-10

    vs. FCS: 3-1
    Overall: 16-5

Best Performance: Presbyterian 19, Western Carolina 14 - The Blue Hose bring the Catamounts crashing back to Earth despite not scoring an offensive touchdown.

Worst Performance: Liberty 39, (#20) Richmond 46 (2OT) - Not really a bad performance by the Flames, of course, but still a tough loss to their former coach.

Most Surprising Result: Presbyterian 19, Western Carolina 14 - This marks the first time since moving up that Presbyterian has had a winning record 5 games in.

MEAC

HOW 22-27 NCCEN
NCAT 0-13 SCSU (in Atlanta, GA)
NFOLK 14-7 SAV
MORG 24-9 FAMU
DSU 7-27 BCU

    Overall: 4-15

Best Performance: South Carolina St. 13, North Carolina A&T 0 - The Bulldogs launch into the MEAC title race by holding NC A&T to 156 yards.

Worst Performance: Savannah St. 7, Norfolk St. 14 - This game had to be torture to watch: two bad teams who never scored after the first quarter.

Most Surprising Result: North Carolina A&T 0, South Carolina St. 13 - Aggies fall to SCSU for the 13th. time in 14 years.

SoCon

WCU 14-19 PRESBY
CCU 37-31 FUR (2OT)
CIT 13-17 WOFF
MER 18-21 SAM
VMI 7-55 UTC

  • NConf Record: 0-2
    Overall: 11-16

    vs. FCS*: 0-2
    Overall: 5-9

Best Performance: Wofford 17, The Citadel 13 - Terriers won rushing 314-199, which is all you really need to know in a game involving two option teams.

Worst Performance: VMI 7, (#14) Tennessee-Chattanooga 55 - The Keydets allow 555 yards to a team that was averaging 265 coming in.

Most Surprising Result: Western Carolina 14, Presbyterian 19 - Was this a return to normalcy for the Catamounts, or just a hiccup against a surprisingly capable opponent?

At this point it's becoming less and less of a surprise.

How many times can you have URI as the worst performance? They suck, period. Where did you pick Sacred Heart? While I'm not honestly surprised by the result, I didn't see anyone pick them to actually win (at least not here).

I don't know about this, Venus. Bryant's actually starting to put a pretty nice record together.

Will they take out the likes of EWU (even sans Adams) or NDSU? Probably not. But they're starting to look pretty good nonetheless....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
