What are the big races in your state?

We've got an open Senate seat with Tom Harkin retiring. Nasty race between Joni Ernst and Bruce Braley. Can't stand to watch TV with all the ads for this race between the candidates and the PACs. Braley should have been a shoe in but his mouth has gotten him in trouble too many times.

Iowa has 4 house seats and two of them are open due to a retirement and Braley trying to move up.

Our governor will cruise to re-election against his token Democrat opponent. He is already the longest serving governor in the history of the US (post constitution) and when he wins re-election and assuming he completes his term he will be the longest serving governor in US history.

Dem Governor Mark Dayton and Sen Al Franken holding well against Teabagger wannabes in Minnesota. Dayton turned state around to $1BB+ surplus after former Conk left $5BB deficit. Al Franken doing a ton to help business and kids and schools. Challengers showing Teabag colors in a decidedly Teabag-unsympathetic state.

Conk TV ads ridiculous.

Dem Peter Russo is taking on ex-SEAL Ryan Zinke for our lone seat in the House.

Arch-conk and churcher fuck Steve Daines probably has the Senate seat vacated by Max Baucus in the bag with Walsh having dropped out after the plagerism scandal.

Met Branstad at a Variety Club of Iowa telethon in '86. Was impressed with him. Though a Conk, I think he's a good leader. Bright, quick, tough, yet approachable.

Fast forward years later having not heard of him in years, saw him speaking on CSPAN at a gov's conference. My God, the poor guy sounded like he was in early Alzheimers. What a difference 30 years makes! Do you notice it, too?

Probably, but I don't see any difference with them than any other politicians. Any politician can balance the budget. Layoffs are just as bad as they were 10 years ago under different politicians. Bush and Obama took the homes away from hard working people, banks got bailed out and made money, mortgage brokers made money, lawyers made money. Those same hard working people still don't have money to spend at the ma and pop businesses, and the band played on...........

I've always been impressed with Branstad. Your description of him as bright, quick, tough, yet approachable is spot on which is why he has been so successful as an elected official. He also has a huge passion for making the state of Iowa a better place. He seems to have a talent for having good people on his staff too.

I've had several dealings with him during this latest term. He may have slipped a little but overall I think he's still got it. He never has been able to give a great speech so I'm not sure if I would judge him based on a speech you saw on C-SPAN. Many speculate that he is in the early stages of Parkinson's because you can see the tremors/shakes at times. If that is true it may be having some impact on him at times as well.

Funny, met both he and Fred Grandy at that function and, later, around a poolside table stacked with empty beer bottles, was asked by both groups if I wanted to help out in their campaigns. Turns out that the 1985 Miss Mississippi (BIG tits, forget her name), who was there helping and with whom I had visited earlier at great length about my then-pol aspirations, "recommended" me to both groups.

Virulently anti-Reagan/Conk even at that time, I never followed up, but I carried around Fred Grandy's business card for years. Eventually sold it to Col Hogan on Craigslist for Conk jerk-off material.

Delaware is settling into blue-state Donk monotony, office trading, and corruption. Chris Coons, the pint-sized accidental Senator who became such due to the witchery of Christine O'Donnell, will coast to re-election. He is running totally BS ads proclaiming himself as a bipartisan legislator, when the little pipsqueak votes down the line with Obama.The Donk chickenshit Lieutenant Governor decided to run for AG in mid-term, when he learned that Beau Biden, the current AG who may be covering up a serious health problem, wants to run for governor in 2016. The Republican AG candidate is better but will likely lose. The GOP will probably pick up the state treasurer job, because the whacko Donk incumbent had some ethical issues and decided to move to Massachusetts, where he hopes his homey Deval Patrick will give him a job. The current Donk Congressman and former Lt. Governor, who may be the worst speaker in the US House notwithstanding (because of?) his Dartmouth degree, has only token opposition. Did I miss anyone?

John Barrow looks like he will be the next Obamacare casualty. He has been a reasonably independent congressman who has been good for Georgia Southern and the community but voting for that abomination of a health care bill is just not forgivable.

Klobuchar is good because she has had a taste of Conk and Donk. She is not ruled by the sheeple polls like most politician.

Arizona has some interesting races. We will see if people are really tired of the troglodytes the GOP trots out.
Based on the quality of the candidates, Arizona should go totally blue, but likely won't.

Governor - Democrat Fred Duval is taking on Republican Doug Ducey. Ducey is enslaved to Radical rightwing extremist Cathi Herod, and would make a terrible governor. Ducey built his fortune using government loans to finance Cold Stone Creamery, with a 30% default rate, but turns around and becomes an anti-federal government asswipe. Either way, Arizona will have it's first male governor since 1997.

Sec of State - second highest position in the state (4 of last 7 Sec of State have become Governor due to impeachment, recall, appointment to higher office or death of governor).
Former Dem AG Terry Goddard is running against State Senator Michelle Reagan, who voted for SB 1062 (the hate the gays bill)

Attorney General - Open seat, - incumbent Rep Tom Horne lost in the primary.
Dem Felecia Rotellini vs Rep Mark Brnovich. Brnovich is ethically challenged. Should be an easy Dem win

Super of Public Instruction. Dem David Garcia vs Rep Diane Douglas. Douglas has no-showed EVERY debate, even though she is legally required to since she is accepting public financing. Douglas ruined the Peoria school district.
Every living former Super has endorsed Garcia, including several Republicans.

No US Senate race.
