Real Life Heroine

Post by 89Hen »

http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2014/09/ ... -daughter/
An Inland Empire mother made the ultimate sacrifice for her newborn daughter when she refused lifesaving treatment for bone cancer.
Ashley Bridges was 10 weeks pregnant when she learned of her diagnosis. Although doctors recommended she start chemotherapy immediately, it would have required her to terminate her pregnancy.
“There’s no way I could kill a healthy baby because I’m sick,” Bridges told CBS2’s Kristine Lazar. During her third trimester, at eight months, Bridges was told that delaying treatment had allowed the cancer to spread.

Is there a reason this is in the political forum, other than you're trolling for another abortion debate? Just wondering. :coffee:

No really  we do need to let people (adults) make their own choices...
And your story shows that each person has a compelling story

Saying it a second time doesn't make it true. People can make good choices on their own. But this choice doesn't only impact her.

I choose to drive carefully around school zones, regardless of whether there are speed cameras or even signs posted. That doesn't exemplify why people should be allowed to make their own choices on speed limits. OK, not the best analogy, but I think you get it.

People need to be able to live free in our American Society
and every time you limit their individual freedom you turn this place into Iran

What "babies"..?
I'm totally against late term abortions
and 100% for a free country that doesn't legislate on Religious grounds (Like Iran)

Good story.

I don't see what the debate is here. She certainly made a tough choice... and, one that would be far from easy to make.

Are you saying that all women should be forced into the same choice that she made?

No cancer treatment for women if it would interfere with the healthy fetus? No termination of a pregnancy in order to undergo lifesaving cancer treatments?

This is one of my favorite topics because there is really no soft spot to land for either side of the debate...

This whole "who could be for abortion?" thing is hysterical
Some of the most ardent supporters of women's rights like Sarah Silverman come right out and say
"I wouldn't have an abortion either but that's not what this argument is about really"

Its about rights
Nobody is "PRO abortion"
One point is: We shouldn't legislate on behalf religious beliefs
Point two: Nor should we let the government control womens bodies

i agree with all of your argument except the above because it is fallacious

there are some pretty non- religious reasons to legislate against late term abortions

as a blanket argument, yours could be used to argue against legislating against everything from murder to rape
