The Fed & G.S.: Rotten From The Inside Out

Pro Publica's piece into The Fed's post collapse investigation of Goldman Sachs. Lengthy, but a good profile of both organizations' disingenuous culture...

You know I HATE our Federal Reserve System...
And it just pisses me off and frustrates me to read about it

Agreed. The impression I received was GS runs the show. While all eyes are on the Fed, NY Fed is busy covering GS shenanigans/scams, and GS doesn't hesitate to wield its muscle against perceived critics.

The game is utterly and completely rigged. This is Obama and Holders biggest indictment. You knew it was fucked as soon as NY Fed chief Geithner was appointed.

BTW, you guys ever hear of some dude name Matt Taibbi? 8-)

This isn't news. I used to work in the St. Louis Fed, Treasury Relations dept. There is no difference between the Fed, Treasury and Wall St. It's all one pseudo-governmental, pseudo-capitalist, pseudo-independent monstrosity.

This is almost identical to what "The Italian" (old flame from a few years back) told me...
She worked at the Fed in Boston for years and was in a state of complete shock most of the time

She once told me (after a few glasses of wine) The way the money moved and changed hands at the Fed would be illegal anywhere else in America - and finished it off with - "They see it as their money and they do with it whatever they want"

I will never forget that...

I remember her. She was hot.

Anyway, most people don't realize that the Fed is independent and private, with no obligation to submit to oversight or even to divulge its financial statements or submit to an external independent audit. It's basically the Corleone family, but with the ability to print its own money in the basement.

Does it make any sense for the regulator of banks to be owned by the banks, even foreign banks? It's kind of like the Corleone's having judges, cops, district attorneys and reporters on the payroll.

They don't see it as their money. It is their money.

I do not like the Federal Reserve system. If it was up to me, there would be no Federal Reserve.

However, I do not truth the voracity of the web site involved. Yes, that's ad hominem. But when you look at the "About Us" tab you see this Statement:
Our work focuses exclusively on truly important stories, stories with “moral force.” We do this by producing journalism that shines a light on exploitation of the weak by the strong and on the failures of those with power to vindicate the trust placed in them.
The underlined portion is a red flag to me indicating that this is not an objective news source. The people involved have an agenda. It's not just "we want to provide an objective, balanced view of the truth." At least that's what that says to me.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Pro Publica is unabashedly a liberal media organization. The topic, however, is Carmen Segarra's book about her investigation into GS and the NY Fed's response. Her book is currently being "discussed" by numerous mainstream news organizations including WSJ. I cited Pro Publica as their coverage appeared to be the most detailed.

Again, it's about her investigation and book, not the reviewing organization.

"Balance" in journalism isn't necessarily objective either. :coffee:
