sincerest form of flattery on the Poli-Board

Post by Chizzang »

Up for discussion:
Political Forum Flattery

Example: Stalkers
I follow (stalk) Johnstwrong around and contradict everything he posts (regardless of content)
This is clearly a type of "Forum Flattery" even though it is childish

Example: The dishonorable Debaters
D1B and JoltinJoe argue till way past bedtime and long after the argument is actually over
Its not actually stalking because they create threads TO EACH OTHER

Example: The Suck-up
This is the guy who - without fail - agrees with everything some other guy posts
Be it political or otherwise
Q: Name something that offends Republicans?
A: The actual teachings of Jesus

:dunce:

You need to pay attention. Cluck and I rarely see eye to eye.

Ya know, Cappy, I had to school your bro on this. You waste time focusing on other poster's personal nuances while completely ignoring the substance of debate. You've gotten to a point where you no longer contribute to either creative or intellectual content. That is sad. You USED TO BE the most creative poster on either site: Now, you only drop in to hatefully potshot Conks.

It's our world, and you're just a squirrel trying to get a nut. :kiss wink:

Besides, I can't help it if D1B continues to argue long after I've thrashed him.

Brother T,
First, re hateful potshots, you gotta go over your last 5000 posts in front of a mirror….

Second, re USED TO BE, yeah, you're right. However, I've tired of the silly endless arguing. There are no "contributions" any more. It's all partisan shit-slinging, the righty KING of which is you.
I still got it, but I'm tired, I'm sick, I'm bored. Sorry.

(Edit: years ago, my goal was to be intellectual and creative and fun. I did that. Now, it ain't so fun.)

Observations: There's a whole bunch of ditto heads that all follow each other

As for the conservatives

JohnstOng - is my Conservative muse - its no secret now - I stalk him and read his LONG posts and always come away learning something - even if that something is so dumb its painful... John is without question the single strongest driving force for me to REPLY on this forum
Cluck - follows nobody (and I agree with him a lot more often than I'm comfortable admitting)
OL FU - follows nobody (mostly just cause he's crotchety) He's a Republican with a soul
89hen - is like Republican clock-work and secretly I think I would really like this guy a lot / not sure
AZGF - is reliably consistent (clock work part 2) Right off the Republican q-cards (yet always funny)
CID1990 - is reliably INCONSISTENT and actually makes sense (doesn't always follow the Republican code) and is probably the strongest most consistent debater on the forum
T-man - Like the crazy old uncle with a tinfoil hat in the basement (But he might actually be right sometimes)
ASUG8 - is lovably conservative and less dogmatic than he leads you to believe (He's AZ with a conscience)

The Liberals

Expandos - is T-man on the other end of the scale 180 degrees out of phase
dbackjon - is 100% Liberal right down the line - even when there is nobody defending the agenda (Dback will)
Grizalltheway - Add him to the Liberal card straight ticket - but cleverly positioned as AZ's foil - also funny
Jelly - (love his enthusiasm for Liberalism) but you really do not want him on your side in an argument
Kalm - The least understood Liberal on this board - but I feel like I totally get where he's coming from
Ibanez - Exhausting

Drunk driving is no big deal - Teenage girls were created to tempt old men and cause more trouble than Muslims - I may or may not be a Fundamentalist Christian but I play one on this forum just to send Chizzang into a apoplectic spiral - Science and the Scientific method are flawed (unless I'm using them to make my point) - The Liberal agenda is destroying America and there is no evidence that 1% of the population owning 60% of everything has a negative effect - The Middle Class is fine, ignore the studies...

Science and the Scientific method are flawed
No no no you're missing the point. The scientific method is great. The problem is that, in practice, there is a tendency to say that things have been established through its application when they haven't been.

It's like the thing we were talking about with the Earthquakes in Oklahoma. I posted a link to a paper published in Science where the authors conceded that unequivocal evidence linking earthquakes to oil exploration wastewater would require data that are not available so they did modeling to develop evidence that the activity is "potentially" causing earthquakes.

But I found that by back tracking starting with an MSNBC article headlined "New study links Oklahoma earthquakes to fracking." Using a link in that article you get to an abstract at http://www.sciencemag.org/content/345/6192/13.summary" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Then THAT abstract references another study with the abstract linked at http://www.sciencemag.org/content/345/6195/448" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

When you get to that second link you see an example of something really bad. The paper is entitled "Sharp increase in central Oklahoma seismicity since 2008 induced by massive wastewater injection." But when you read the abstract you see them say, "Subsurface pressure data required to unequivocally link earthquakes to wastewater injection are rarely accessible. Here we use seismicity and hydrogeological models to show that fluid migration from high-rate disposal wells in Oklahoma is potentially responsible for the largest swarm."

In other words, they didn't have the data that would be necessary to unequivocally support what the title of the article says and they use models to support the conclusion that "...fluid migration from high-rate disposal wells in Oklahoma is potentiality responsible..."

To me that's pretty damned irresponsible. If you read the abstract they most certainly did NOT show that a "Sharp increase in central Oklahoma seismicity since 2008 induced by massive wastewater injection." But the title of that article caused another author to publish something in Science to say that then there was at least one article in the media saying it.

To me the fact that a journal about as respected as journals get allowed that is consistent with my belief that the idea that "peer review" journal publication is a quality control process is nonsense. And, to me, anybody should be able to see that when they really look at this particular situation as well as a number of others. The idea that "...massive wastewater injection..." caused a "Sharp increase in central Oklahoma seismicity since 2008 ..." was not inferred through application of the scientific method by the authors of that paper. But the impression is left that it was. THAT, and not the scientific method, is the problem.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Meh, I'm a Rec major from a directional school. I'm an open book with tons of big pictures. I'm easy to understand.

That being said, I'm truly flattered every time CID1990, Gannonfan, and JSO engage.

Full disclosure:

I have a political man crush on UNI88, OLFU, and 86hen and I especially like the fact that all three are avowed conservatives.

I'm generally annoyed with most of Chizzang's economic posts.

I've adopted Ivytalk and 89hen as my curmudgeonly uncles. I imagine William F. Buckley when I'm addressing them.

GATW and Skelly give me hope for the future!

I almost never find anything too disagreeable - You and Ivy and DSU are easy to work with

(Except lately Flaggy has gotten my attention)

But for example:
89hen and AZ can post ONE SHORT SENTENCE and send me over the edge... They've got mad skillz
and as stated JohnstOnge absolutely launches me into another dimension

 There you go you f**ckers
:dunce: :dunce: :dunce: Liberal? I think not.

I follow no man. Well, maybe the Dumb Brothers (kkklean and dal).
Turns out I might be a little gay. 89Hen 11/7/17
