POS Alert - Lewistown Montana Catholic Priest

Post by dbackjon »

Looking at you, Rev. Samuel Spiering

A gay couple has been told they can no longer receive Communion or participate in church ministry after a new priest at a Roman Catholic church in central Montana learned they had been married in a civil ceremony more than a year ago.

The decision set off a split that has cut attendance at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Lewistown. Bishop Michael Warfel of the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings plans to visit on Saturday to discuss how church teachings apply to the situation.

Paul Huff, 66, and Tom Wojtowick, 73 — who have been in a committed relationship for more than 30 years and have lived together in Lewistown for 11 years — said they were stunned by the decision of the Rev. Samuel Spiering, who also said the men could not sing in the church choir.

Wojtowick said the men married in Seattle in May 2013 so they could make medical and financial decisions for each other.

And there it is...now even enforcing teachings within the Church makes you a POS...

These men are still married...they just chose to violate Church rules...so they can't receive communion...
Congratulations Rev Spiering for enforcing canon law...

I am sure I am wrong Dback....but wouldn't making a big media spectecal (sp) of these two guys be worse than just letting this slide? Really :? Now these two guys cannot go anywhere in their town without people talking (good or bad) about them. Their lives won't ever be the same in that town. :ohno: :ohno:

Bingo. Just leave the church if you don't want to abide by its teachings. Worked for Martin Luther.

Raging child sexual abuse crisis currently happening in MT too. Well, it's happening really in just about every state and nations.

Catholics like Hogan = hate children and hate gays but love their gay priests.

What a dumbfuck.

Good grief, Dback. In Catholic theology homosexual sex is sinful. Their 30 year "committed relationship," if it includes homosexual behavior, is sinful according to the Catholic Church.

There is nothing in the world that forces them to be members of a Church that says what they've been doing is sinful. If they don't like the fact that the Catholic Church says what they've been doing is sinful, they should not be members of the Catholic Church. It's pretty simple.

So the prior priest had no problem with it

They been in the relationship for 30 years and active in the church

Actions like this is what will cause the Catholic Church eventually to implode

What would Jesus do?

Probably throw the catholics out of his church

The upcoming Extraordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, called by Pope Francis for October, is to take up, among other things, the issue of pastoral care for same-sex couples.

I'm surprised any pastor would do something like this, without waiting for instruction from the Synod.

Having heard the thoughts of Jesuits on this issue since my college days, I wouldn't be surprised that the instruction from the synod is going to surprise many people.

They'd have to also throw out most of their priest too as they're homosexuals.

If they're truly against what they deem sexual depravity, they should shitcan all priests. Anyone who voluntarily accepts a vow of celibacy is a freak of some degree - pedophile, sadist, masochist or just mentally I'll. Yet dipshits like Hogan will seek these perverts for marriage advice or tips on raising children. :dunce:

Incidentally, the Archdiocese of Chicago has called a press conference for Sunday, and AP is reporting that it is to announce that Bishop Blase Cupich of Spokane, Washington, will be the next archbishop of Chicago.

Cupich is a noted social progressive and, if the reports are true, this is a significant indicator of what type of appointments Francis will make. The Chicago vacancy is the biggest position Francis has had to fill to date. The Chicago archbishop is always, in short order, promoted to the College of Cardinals.

A brief snippet from one of thousands of articles chronicling the mess that is the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Roman Catholic Church.
After a 13-year-old boy reported in 1979 that a priest raped and threatened him at gunpoint to keep quiet, the Archdiocese of Chicago assured the boy's parents that, although the cleric avoided prosecution, he would receive treatment and have no further contact with minors.

But the Rev. William Cloutier, who already had been accused of molesting other children, was returned to ministry a year later and went on to abuse again before he resigned in 1993, two years after the boy's parents filed a lawsuit.

Officials took no action against Cloutier over his earliest transgressions because he "sounded repentant," according to the documents, which show how the archdiocese tried to contain a mounting scandal over child sexual abuse.

“I think it signals to everyone that clergy sex crimes must be dealt with through the secular justice system, criminal and civil,” Clohessy said. "The larger goal here is to keep church officials, not just Catholics, from acting deceitfully and putting children in harm’s way.”

The documents cover only 30 of at least 65 clergy for whom the archdiocese says it has substantiated claims of child abuse. Vatican documents related to the 30 cases were not included, under the negotiated terms of the disclosure.

The records also didn't include the files of former priest Daniel McCormack, who pleaded guilty in 2007 to abusing five children and whose case prompted an apology from Cardinal Francis George and an internal investigation into how the archdiocese responds to abuse claims.

But the more than 6,000 pages include internal communications between church officials, disturbing testimony about specific abuses, meeting schedules where allegations were discussed, and letters from anguished parishioners. The names of victims and details considered private under mental health laws were redacted.

"Where was the church for the victims of this sick, demented, twisted pedophile?" one man wrote in a 2002 letter to Cardinal George about abuse at the hands of the Rev. Norbert Maday, who was imprisoned in Wisconsin after a 1994 conviction for molesting two boys. "Why wasn't the church looking out for us? We were children, for God's sake."

Of course Joe never turns down an opportunity to bend the truth to defend his archaic cult.
Pope Francis just issued his own ice bucket challenge to liberal Catholics, even if they don’t know it yet.

For months upon months, liberal Catholics have been salivating over Pope Francis choice to succeed Cardinal George. Back in February, I warned that liberal Catholics would try to make as much as they could of Pope Francis’s appointment to this critical American see.

Liberal writers like David Gibson are already publishing articles now claiming Bishop Blase Cupich’s appointment is “dashing conservative hopes”.

But you when you read Gibson’s article, you realize it’s mostly fluff. Liberals are trying so hard to spin this but it reminds me of cotton candy: sweet, but all air.

I’m going to make the argument that Pope Francis’ choice of Bishop Cupich should actually pour cold water on liberal hopes of a leftward turn in the American episcopacy.

Yes, Bishop Cupich talks in a way that makes liberals feel comfortable, but the substance of what he says is almost always sound and orthodox. He told the New York Times “Pope Francis doesn’t want cultural warriors, he doesn’t want ideologues”, but do liberals ever stop and realize that cuts both ways?

If this appointment does indeed signal Pope Francis’ plans for the US Catholic Church, I would argue we have reasons for hope. Let’s look at the substance of what Bishop Cupich has done over the years:

Life: Yes, he made a bad call when he discouraged his priests from praying outside Planned Parenthood clinics. But people also forget that when Sen. Tom Daschle issued a fund-raising letter on behalf of NARAL, Bishop Cupich took Daschle publicly to task and issued a rebuke against Daschle that was read from every pulpit in his diocese the weekend before the election. Last year he wrote this on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade: “The truth will win out and we have to believe that a nation whose collective heart can break and grieve for babies slaughtered in Newtown has the capacity and God’s grace to one day grieve for the babies killed in the womb.” His failure in prudence, even a serious one, does not necessarily mean he seeks to undermine pro-life action. I wouldn’t be surprised to find that he is undertaken pro-life actions that he is not given credit for. Let’s have that conversation, not jump to conclusions.

Marriage: He raised up his voice in defense of marriage many times during the marriage referendum in 2012, taking plenty of flack from gay activists in the process. In fact it is hard to imagine a more powerful and solid defense of marriage than the one he gave in his third pastoral letter on the marriage referendum: ”On Nov. 6, the citizens of the State of Washington will be asked to decide the fate of Referendum 74 and the law that has redefined marriage. As members of the community of Jesus’ disciples the decision before us is about much more than one’s politics, one’s partisan affiliation, the debates about rights or being sympathetic to trends in society. It is about what we believe God has been doing from the creation of the world and how He invites us to be partners in continuing His work until the end of time through the decisions we make. But it is also about what we know from human experience and serious social science study, both of which validate what our faith teaches us about the value of marriage, traditionally understood. ”

Religious freedom: He is on record opposing the HHS mandate.

So, on the hot button social issues, Bishop Cupich more than just falls in line with the Church’s teaching, he articulates and defends it.

If this is what liberals gets excited, they’re drinking their own Kool-Aid.

Now, what are we supposed to do about liberal Catholics trying to have a field day on this news? The same thing as were always supposed to do: pray for Bishop Cupich, pray for the Archdiocese of Chicago, and show through your words and actions the living heart of Christ by joyfully living out the teachings of His church!

Let the liberals spin their cotton candy and rot their teeth.

Hundreds of victims of child sexual abuse by catholic priests have come forward in Spokane. The church, led by Cupich, has to hide behind bankruptcy law to avoid disclosures that the archdiocese was complicit in terrible crimes against children.

Cupich is a piece of shit, like most catholic bishops and cardinals.
