Of course I know that we've used violent muslims over the years, just as Nazi Germany did, just as the Brits did, the Russians did, etc. If their religion was inherently peaceful, then that wouldn't really work, would it?kalm wrote:You of course do realize we've helped some of the violent muslims along quite nicely over the years. This. It is not about superiority of religions, but rather about behavior. All religions have some violent teachings and adherents, but none can compare with Islam in scope and magnitude.
What is interesting here to me is the mantra of peaceful, moderate Muslims that is repeated over and over.
By not acting to reign in the violent Muslims, the peaceful, moderate Muslims are making themselves irrelevant, just as moderate, peaceful Germans did in Nazi Germany, moderate, peaceful Cambodians did during Pol Pot's atrocities, just as moderate, peaceful Russians did under Stalin, etc.
As Edmund Burke said, "All that it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing".
We have supported regimes and men that have triumphed over innocents, evilly. Would Burke rise up from his comfy Cotswolds davenport and cry "balderdash" (or whatever term was used at the time) about this?

Sure, just as soon as you remind us about the religion of peace and Islam not being more violent than other religions. You can start with the Barbary Pirates and the "reasons" they needed to attack American shipping 200+ years ago.kalm wrote:So please remind us about evil again...LeadBolt wrote:

I think it is pretty safe to say that pretty much every country, many with different religions, were used by the major powers over the years, so I am not sure what advantage you gain by pointing out the Barbary Pirates as an example of Muslinism being more violent than other religionsLeadBolt wrote:Sure, just as soon as you remind us about the religion of peace and Islam not being more violent than other religions. I dislike Maher, but he's correct.
I'm curious how we're going to determine who the moderate muslims are vs. the extremists when we start handing out weapons to fight ISIS/ISIL. Is there some special endorsement on their drivers license that identifies their level of extremism?
