bucs90, your continued put down of other schools, DOES NOT MAKE CSU look better, it just makes you look more and more insecure about your team.

Let your team do the talking on the field, I'm sure they wish you'd just be quiet.
Yeah. But Citadel fans started trash talking CSU...unsolicited and unprovoked. So I talked back. Then VMI jumped in. They started.

HE started.........VMI has underperformed on the gridiron too damn long.......that's about to change.. VMI has a new Commandant of Cadets who doesn't brow-beat the ball players like the prior one did......the new A.D. has a great history of getting out and raising funds for facilities and the like. More alums are giving more $$ to sports operating funds.

Nice. Im all for having a civil discussion about SoCon/Big South teams. That's interesting about the Commandant, I've always wondered why VMI didn't perform quite how Citadel has over the years. Lexington is a GORGEOUS area, and VMI is a nice school. I like VMI's stadium, built onto the side of that hill and all. Ya'll place is nicer than CSU's by a lot, but yeah, I understand about needing better facilities.

Um...its true. I'll find the thread. One of your classmates brought up Citadel's upcoming game vs CSU in another thread, and began talking trash about the stadium and then made a comment like "They're lucky we even allow them on our schedule". So I say...what? We beat you last year. Its a city rivalry, like it or not. And it went from there. And I started talking right back at you. CSU wasn't any part of that thread until a Citadel d-bag brought it up.

You guys wanna say you should beat CSU? Go ahead. You should.
You wanna say our stadium sucks? Go for it. It does suck.

But unprovoked stuff like "They're lucky we allow them on our schedule"? Ok. Game on. You guys are 2-2 vs CSU since we went fully funded with 65 scholarships. Like it or not, its game on, and your boy started it. Just like you guys brag about Citadel cadets firing the first shots of the Civil War (which you guys seem to NEVER be able to let go of).......your guy started this too.

Here ya go Citadel guy, the thread where a Citadel dbag started this trash talk:

http://www.championshipsubdivision.com/ ... 7&start=25" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

("Playing at CSU once is one time too many. They have a high school stadium. CSU should be thankful that we even schedule them.")

It was on the Coastal vs Citadel game thread. Even the Coastal fans said Citadel is a bit of a drama queen team. And they are.

Anyway...that's the unprovoked, unsolicited first trash talk started by a Citadel guy, where he decided insult a team that they LOST TO last year and are .500 against since CSU went full funded haha!!

Sorry guy. We aren't knobs....you talk to us, we talk back!

I'm glad you feel that way. However, you can and should expect criticism from fans of other teams when they hear a Chuck South fan - a Chuck South fan - calling out their team.

You may claim they started it but I thought the comment about CSU being lucky to host El Cid was warranted. It's not often that a team with the athletic budget of the Citadel (in comparison to CSU's budget) would play at a school with such a dinky stadium, despite the fact that Chuck South is probably the better football team. And given the fact that Chuck South is a fairly new school who gained D-1 status only a short time ago, they haven't established much respect for themselves (yet) in the football world.

Well that's exactly my point. A CSU fan should expect to have stuff like that said about them from championship programs like Liberty or Wofford, who have basically owned us in our history. Not The Citadel. The original comment was simply about scheduling CSU, not playing @ CSU. I happen to agree...the game should be at Citadel just because of seating. I, along with ALL CSU grads, have said for two decades that the school must fix that stadium situation. The SC State game in 1998 had 8,000 fans. Coastal last year too. Citadel game will be just as many if not more. But saying we are lucky Citadel even schedules us? That's an invitation to talk trash, at least for fans in this city who understand the attitude between the two schools.

I agree with all you said, but, this situation is one that mostly CSU fans in Charleston would understand. About how arrogant and snotty Citadel fans in this city can be, especially when discussing CSU vs Citadel football. You'd think they have beaten us by 50 points every time we played. You'd think they belong in the SEC the way they talk about their program. Its ALWAYS an excuse. Nope. 2-2 since going fully funded.

And not just for CSU. They have an excuse for EVERY team they lose to. You should hear all the reasons they say they never beat Wofford, or Coastal, or even how they should have beaten Florida State.

I recall seeing 4 of their players at a Swamp Foxes (Arena 2) game in spring of 2000. Wofford had BLOWN OUT the Dogs. CSU played Wofford tighter, like 10 points. Anyway, I and the guys I was with were joking with them after they saw our "CSU Football" shirts and started talking about how we should play each other, and they got very snotty about it. We asked about Wofford, how we did better than they did (MUCH better). They all said "Oh man, it was hot that day". HOT???? You play in Charleston, Wofford doesn't!

Anyway, I get your point. To outsiders, it seems crazy. But there is a special friction between CSU and Citadel fans in this city because we see their nonsense day in and day out.

Your inferiority complex is showing.

Of all the El Cid grads I know, none of them give a whit about CSU. So this friction you talk about is in that snakes!t crazy head of yours

By the way.... EVERY time you refer to the W-L record with The Citadel, you say that CSU is 2-2 since going fully funded. Speaking of making excuses... THAT is an excuse. The reality is that the record against The Citadel is 2-5. Still somewhat respectable considering te circumstances, but you shouldn't talk about people making excuses when that is what you are doing.

The only thing that's tough about Campbell is the coaches convincing their players they won't lose by 30 every Saturday
Did you actually watch the first half or are you just generalizing based on overall record?

You assume incorrectly. What you're referring to here is financial assistance available to all Campbell students. This is not grant money nor in any way does it resemble a scholarship based on athletic ability with which the CU football coaches can go out and recruit talent -- which is the point of an athletic scholarship in the first place. Campbell as a university may bestow some financial assistance on some of its neediest students but this is a far cry from their football program being in any way a scholarship program.

I'll give you Jacksonville since Kerwin Bell has been there but, as for Davidson, their last winning season in which they did not also lose to a D2 program was 6-4 in 2002.

We are both right. It is for all. Including athletes. Before full funding, Charleston Southern did that. Coaches basicaly acted like a lobbyist, helping thr player find every penny in aid they could get. In recruiting they'd often have the aid package preapproved by admissions to show the kid that he wouldnt pay much if anything. Regular students didnt have that lobbyist helping them find it all.

Anyway....its gameday haha time ti watch ball.

It isn't remotely the same. Using your logic, if a Campbell football player finds $5 on the ground on the way to class, he just received a stipend.

If coachez assist him in getting all the grants he can get it is. There are a lot of revenue and grant sources students never find on their own.

26 years of football...still don't have 100 wins.
Did you play football in college? People would be shocked how close teams actually are in talent level, even 1-10 vs 10-1 teams. Its more often than not the difference of 4-5 key players making big time plays. "Good" teams have those handful of players who win games. "Tough" teams are ones that may be phsycial, strong, great effort guys....but don't have an never will have those big time playmakers.

If you played (and you may have) you'd know teams like that. That you should beat, and end up beating. But they play hard, are physically strong, etc. And if you are the better team, one of your 4-5 big gamebreakers will make the plays that break it open. And after you'll all talk about how "tough" that crappy team was on the field, even if you beat them 42-10.

If you didn't play...well, you see only scores. And that makes the context of the discussion a lot different.
I played from 5th grade and into college.

I played on teams that were very good and teams that were average. We never, ever, let a team that shouldn't compete with us actually do so.

Just because a team plays hard, is strong, and doesn't give up doesn't give the other team a reason to say "well, we played okay but they were tough so it is what is is.

Here are Campbells OOC wins over the last 3 years

Newport News Apprentice School - seriously...this is a school? They are a United States Collegiate Athletic Association school...da fuq is USCAA?
Virginia Wise - D2
Virginia Wise - D2

Against scholarship D1 programs coming into this season they have been outscored 209-80 in 5 games (and half of those game against Georgia State)...and they were never in any of those games, sans Georgia State.

Those schools are only tough if you let them be tough.

No offense but I find that very hard to believe.

If you played football that long, from child through college, thats like 15-17 seasons. And not ONCE did you have a game where a big underdog....put up a great fight or almost won?? Man, just hard to believe you there.

Like I said, I played on teams that were either real good, or average. The average teams I played on lost by about what we should and won by about what we should.

The real good teams I was on only lost too/struggled with other good teams.

A team like Campbell should never give a scholarship team any trouble.

Oh!!! What a treat, VMI jumps up from Big South/SoCon irrelevance to say "REMEMBER US GUYS, WE EXIST" :twocents: What conference are you guys in now, since you fled the SoCon b/c you couldn't compete, then fled the Big South because you THOUGHT you'd compete, but were just as bad.....where ya'll at now???
The SoCon is a huge step up from the Big suck. Before we left the Socon VMI dominated BSC garbage pretty much 24/7...admittedly the league isn't now what it was back then with the loss of App State and GaSo, but it's still much better competition than the BSC ever was.

I've said this before, in 3-5 years VMI will be much better than anyone in the Big Suck, Coastal and Liberty notwithstanding. No one besides those 2 schools mentioned can hold a flame to Chattanooga, Furman, hell even Samford and Wofford. Even WCU is looking good this year. I mean there is a reason that Coastal and Liberty are trying to bolt ASAP.
Are we looking at the same conferences? VMI has been an a dreadful team for years. C'mon. When was the last time VMI football was relevant?

This thread has been epic. Listen, I love giving The Citadel, CSU, WCU, etc... any team really, some shit. Heck, Coastal is supposedly getting a TEAL TURF!? ARE YOU SERIOUS!? NOT ONLY DO WE HAVE A RIDICULOUS MASCOT, YOU'RE INSTALLING TEAL TURF!?! Oy vey!

But, I digress. The Citadel (one of my favorite schools) is hit or miss. I think they can have a solid team in the next few years. CSU has done surprisingly well but their facilities are joke and that is a huge factor in recruiting. What player wants to go to college and say, " My high school was way better than this."? VMI...VMI has always been a dreadful team to play. VMI hasn't had a winning season since 1981.

Coastal has gotten lucky with the allure of the beach, wealthy donors (Bob Brooks, TD Bank), some famous alum and a great start to a new program. We don't play FBS teams for money, b/c we don't need to. We've built an amazing following and program and it's caused schools like G-dubbs and Liberty to expand and improve. Coastal has been great for the Big South, but there's no talk of them leaving, not even for the SoCon.

Ok, well, if you say so. I don't know if ANY team has ever gone a whole year and not had a team that they were much more talented than play them tough. By your logic, an FCS team should never give an FBS team trouble, just because of the scholarship gap. Or a D2 team should never give an FCS team trouble. Heck, do you think Mount Union or Wesley of D3- non scholarship D3 powerhouses- could give scholarship FCS or D2 teams trouble? Um..yeah. They've beaten them before. Mount Union would give lots of FCS teams "trouble".

Just my two cents. But if you played from grade school all the way through college, and NEVER had a game where the opponent played you tougher that day than they should have...well, I just don't know what league you played in.
