Will Obama comment on Ray Rice?
Seems like he comments on every other high profile assault or murder case involving blacks.

Re: Will Obama comment on Ray Rice?
IMO, the Ravens POTENTIALLY screwed this up by jumping the gun. There's a double impetus here: the image-related impetus to be seen as "doing something," and the practical impetus to have an active player on the roster vice a guy who's under league suspension. There's a potential HUGE problem here, though: an acquittal. Sure, with the video, it seems like an open and shut case. But everyone knows about big-name defense attorneys who specialize in big-name clients: they are often sneaky enough to get things like that thrown out of the trial, and then the verdict is up for grabs. If Rice IS acquitted, the Ravens have opened themselves up to the biggest wrongful termination suit in the history of mankind. (OK, maybe I'm exaggerating that just a bit.)
A BETTER way to play it could have been to transfer Rice from player personnel to somewhere in the front office (even if they have to "make up" a position). That legitimately removes Rice from the roster, thus opening up his roster spot so the GM can replace him with an RB who will actually play, yet keeps him technically employed by the team. Thus, no "wrongful termination" has occurred, because Rice still has a "job." Then the team suspends him indefinitely without pay; he still has that "job," but no $$ from it. Then when the seemingly inevitable conviction comes down, THEN the team cans his shell with ZERO chance of a successful wrongful termination suit, because a conviction on a domestic violence charge is enough to trip just about any moral turpitude clause in any contract. If he IS acquitted, then the team could do whatever they wanted with him: return him to the player roster, trade him (if there were any takers), or even lay him off (economics are still bad, and even NFL teams are laying people off). All bases are covered.
Can anyone see a flaw in my plan? Sure, if the conviction DOES happen, the Ravens will be justified in this early move. Unfortunately, football is ALSO a business, and a business that fails to consider the possibility of a suit that could ruin them is not doing its job.

Re: Will Obama comment on Ray Rice?
Never mind. I've heard a new report (probably one you've already heard; I'm slow
) saying that the legal case has ALREADY been resolved with a guilty or no contest plea (or something like that) and a court order to anger management, maybe even tied to record expungement upon completion. THAT would be enough to trip the moral turpitude clause IMMEDIATELY, so the team is ENTIRELY justified in canning his shell NOW.
That said, if the this report IS true, the COURT screwed up BIG TIME. Things like this should NOT be subject to a record cleansing. Domestic violence is PATENTLY not on a par with speeding. If he truly IS guilty of this, he should be locked away for a LONG time....

Obama did comment yesterday. However neither Roger Goodell, nor one NFL owner did.
