Frontline? What a joke of a show.

Reading your transcript, I see no mention of the KGB's assassination attempt on the Pope. I wonder why. And why, if the Pope was having no influence, did the KGB try to kill him? :coffee:

Also, see what Lech Walesa has to say about the significance of the Pope's role in the fall of Communism.

D, it must be tiring trying to re-write history to fit your narrow world outlook.

TitsonMen67,

Type "Reagan exaggerated role in collapse of ussr" in google and you can pick from numerous scholarly arguments, including Reagan's hard line stance actually prolonging the life of the Soviet Union by increasing the strength of kremlin conservatives.

Your lack of understanding here is breathtaking. You're a stupid fuck.
Link?

There is none.

You are mentally ill. You delude yourself with bizarro-world revisionist dreams unfounded in reality. Were America to have followed the Dems nuclear freeze/Detente proposals of the early 80's, U.S.S.R. would STILL EXIST, and the western collapse occurring due to Obama's failed military dismantling policies, would have takenplace under Clinton.

Reagan's "Peace through strength" WORKED and you're neither mature or man enough to admit Reagan was right.

Sorry, D. THAT'S REALITY.

History is built on facts and an interpretation of those facts. I've read a few articles on this subject. This was the first to discuss communism.

I'm pretty even keeled. I like my economics to be conservative and my social issues slightly liberal (i.e. I think we need to cut not tax and I support gay marriage and weed. ) But some of these, to me, feel like they are opening the topic up for discussion. Which is good and bad.

I had a conservative teacher in college and he would rant and rave about every democrat/progressive person in history. But those that he shared an ideology with, he treated like Jesus. I felt that I got a bad education from him because he put his politics and ideas into the history. Same with the feminist teacher I had. Personal politics should NOT enter the school in any subject. Same goes for religion.

There's one part, about Truman dropping the bomb, that I have no problem with. Let's talk about it. Was it right or wrong to drop the bomb? The Japanese weren't surrendering anytime soon. We dropped 2 bombs, and they didn't surrender until 6 days later (finalized on Sept. 2). We fire-bomb your island, decimate 2 cities and you still have to think about continuing the fight?! There's an argument to be made against fire-bombing those Japanese and German cities but it's war. War is hell. And if you're going to sink our ships, bomb London and kill civilians then expect your enemy to do the same.

Couldn't we have imposed sanctions on them? We could have prevented a tremendous loss of life.
Or drop a few of those bombs just off their coastline to radiate their fish? The Japs would have gone batshit crazy without seafood.

Sanctions. Well, we cut off their supply of oil and they bombed us so...sanctions probably wouldn't have worked.
