This entire post has been copied in my notes. I'll quote bits of it as it serves my purposes.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:while i disagree with your banning, i can't say i'm surprised... DU really has little to do with mainstream Democratic thinking. added to that would be that it's kinda the political equivalent of *** in terms of overmodding anyway...
you and i can quibble for days and days about obama spending all of his political capital on glbt rights in 100 days... i agree the mixed messages on da/dt are frustrating... but expecting the newly-elected president to hand his political opponents a potent fundraising and candidate recruiting tool 100 days in to his presidency by bringing the repeal of DOMA to the floor of the House really serves to undermine everything else he is tasked with doing/fixing.
political capital is a finite resource, you can build it, you can spend it... but once it's gone... it makes doing business harder...
i recognize the frustration in being asked to "wait" for equality... i realize it's unfair, but as I've said in other places and at other times... focus on winning the war, don't get wrapped up in the individual battles.

I said starting to happen clenz and I don't know if you were at AGS in late 2006 and early 2007 but it starts slowly and builds to a crescendo which I know you were there for at the end of last season. Hopefully I'm wrong and it's just some misunderstandings on my part but there are some disturbing similarities to that time period over there.clenz wrote:If that was the case I wouldn't be here anymoreUrsus A. It's what I keep trying to tell you...
Most of us actually predicted this last fall, but the Obamazombies kept bleating about how different Obama was, how he was, in his own words, "a fierce advocate for gay rights"
This is actually the GOP's best chance to make inroads - stop being idiots, and let the Democratic rank and file realize how much they have been betrayed by their own party.
But as long as the GOP is in the hands of Rush Limbaugh and his cronies, the rank and file will be engrossed in stopping them, and remain loyal to the Democratic Party.
You know, the only people who think the GOP is in the hands of Rush is people like YOU. I don't know a SINGLE person who listens to Rush, O'Reilly, or any of the other myriad of talking heads ya'll like to blame for the GOP's woes. They don't represent ME, or anybody like me, or anybody I know. Regarding this topic, it's things like this that we TRIED and TRIED to tell ya'll, but you just wouldn't listen. Change, my ass. He's a fcuking Chicago politician and he played the splinter groups like cheap pianos. Ya'll got used (but you're not alone)....

Don't feel bad Jon, I got banned from there after one post, for explaining why cops were in the protest crowds taking pictures of some of the instigators. Always been a little touchy over there if you ask me.

Re: Banned from Democratic Underground
Okie-dokie, well, I Googled "banned from democratic underground" to find a clue as to why I've been banned by reading the experiences of others. I was sure that what I'd find is a lot of deep-shrugging "quien sabe" users whose "posting privileges" got revoked for not only being unable to guess that the troll's name is Rumplestiltskin, but for making an incorrect guess. Now I know why I was banned. I did not know Dem-Und was an Obamabot site, I thought it was "democratic" and a perfect place to go for freedom of left-leaning speech because of the cool "underground" in the name. It is neither. I'm not gay, but I'm real mad at Obama and currently can talk of little else. Oops, huh? LMAO. Thank you for the enlightenment. Now I know I have been banned from a place I would not have visited in the first place if I'd known who they were. What a tacky bunch.
BTW, none of my few (around 25, starting in 2007) posts have been removed. I'm just posting merrily along one day, and banned the next. POOF. Just like that, no rhyme or reason, until now.
Try Crooks & Liars sometime, if you haven't--great moderators. And FireDogLake. It's laughable that a blog would ban its users, when in fact there is competition among them for members, "best blog" votes, and other awards.

Re: Banned from Democratic Underground
Thanks for stopping Carlotta. Not on the demunderground but it does seem to fall into a vein of some messageboards where moderators get to feeling a sense of entitlement because they can suppress what others are saying. As you say it doesn't make sense since their is actually competition out there for them but there are people that think they know what's best for others and what others should read and discuss. Those are people that over value their worth and should shut the fuck up. That is the reason many of us are on this board and if it happens here then the progression will move on as I'm sure is happening for jilted posters on the board you're talking about. The best moderators are the ones that don't try and supress what people are saying but put things in a more useable place for the readers. If you feel like hanging around here then I'm sure you will find that the mods here are exactly that...the good kind.CarlottaCorday wrote:Okie-dokie, well, I Googled "banned from democratic underground" to find a clue as to why I've been banned by reading the experiences of others. Re: Banned from Democratic Underground
Thanks for responses, very nice of you! I will travel around this site, read, and post once in a while if I can do so intelligently. Re. the Tacky Bunch, I read at another site that they claim a membership of 120,000 by counting dead/unused accounts (that's the majority) and TOMBSTONES. They count the banned as active members! An estimate shows actual membership at about 4,000.
Anyway, that skunk is dead, thank you for helping me bury it at the roadside.
(My apologies to real skunks.)

Re: Banned from Democratic Underground
Welcome!
I am glad that my post could be of enlightenment to you.
DU did not used to be the way it is, but it seems to have been taken over by the White House. Dissent is barely tolerated there.
They are getting a lot of push back from more and more regulars disheartened by Obama's move to the right on many issues. That site is definately going downhill.
Stay tuned - there are rumblings of an alternative site for true progressives being developed.
