Why can't we talk about SEXISM in US criminal justice?
It's always about race. What about gender?
I mean, most of these people like Michael Brown shot by police are male. Men get harsher sentences than women do. The male incarceration rate is about 15 times higher than those of women, which is much larger than the white-black gap. What other possible explanation can there be besides privilege and bias? It couldn't possibly be that young men have higher testosterone levels which leads to more aggressive behavior and more impulse control. That would only be pseudoscientific bigotry reenforcing evil gender stereotypes.

Totally agree. It's kind of like southerners…
Historically agrarian culture, dominated by evangelical christianity, steeped in a history of racism. It's not a stretch to figure out why they're more ignorant and narrow minded than other parts of the country.

Well, you have the people of the West, who were motivated by sheer greed (Gold Rush), fear (fleeing from Asian tyranny), or a complete aversion to mankind (fleeing to isolated places), who have no idea of what the real world is like, or how things work (Californians), but who always want to impose their views on other people.kalm wrote:Totally agree. In other words, apart from the South, the Westerners are more ignorant and narrow minded than other parts of the country...and they want to keep it that way.

What about sexism in our culture?. We teach our daughters self defense in case if a rapist but we don't teach our sons self control.
Women are taught to scream "fire" because screaming "rape" doesn't trigger a response.

WTF are you talking about? In my son's karate class, all you hear is about self control. Physical defense is the LAST resort.
Who were your coaches or teachers in school? Plenty of people teach sons about self control...plenty of sons learn early that immediate gratification is not a good thing.
It is the huddled masses that don't usually learn patience and self control...both women and men. Otherwise, we would not have as many preggo dipsh!t chicks laying around...and I mean laying around.
BTW, plenty of other agencies besides, "Rapes are Us", are teaching people to yell, "fire" instead of help (or rape, if you want to continue your narrow focus). Know why? Because MOST people's own self interest and fear often prevent a helpful response to a dangerous situation.
Yell "help," (or rape, or they are popping a cap into me) and a lot of people back away and don't want to get involved. Yell, "fire" and most people will pay attention.
Functionally (or instinctually, as some people would define it), more people are geared towards, "Flee" than "Fight."
You should really look more into human behavior before you ignorantly turn some sound bite into the basis of your argument.

My parents taught us self control. Treat women like your sisters, that sort of thing. But if you don't see that this is a mans world, then you're blind.
And who said it was the basis of an argument? It's a conversation starter. Something to think about. Obviously there's an objectification of women that does nothing other than to skew the moral and ethical guidelines in which a person should be treated. We are all guilty of it in some form or fashion.

If you don't think that women objectify men, in a way that skews the moral and ethical guidelines for which a person should be treated, then you are an idiot (or a virgin).
If you don't think that individuals figure out ways to manipulate others for their own benefit, then you are an idiot.
Something to think about.

I guess the South really is FAR behind the rest of the country (besides Ferguson).

Of course they do, but men take the cake. I'm going to go out on a limb, and say more men rape/sexually harrass women than the other way around.Cluck U wrote:Ibanez wrote:

What's wrong with teaching people to take precautions against other people doing bad things to them? If we can stop rape by teaching boys to not rape, can we teach people to not commit burglary so we don't have to spend money on locks and home security systems?Ibanez wrote:What about sexism in our culture?. I'm curious as to what you mean by this. Are you talking about bikini pics and porn? The research I've seen has shown there's no link between porn and sexual violence. Some even suggests it can decrease sexual violence.Ibanez wrote: Obviously there's an objectification of women that does nothing other than to skew the moral and ethical guidelines in which a person should be treated. IMHO, liberal feminists (not saying that's you) can't wrap their heads around the fact that it's generally much easier for women to sell their bodies than men (because it would be sexist to assume women are somehow less sexual than men) so they concoct tales of women as being victims. Never mind the kind of money that Hooters girls, exotic dancers, sugar babies, and "escorts" with no real education or job skills can make.

There's nothing wrong in teaching people to be prepared. But we should also teach respect/self control. Which, i'm sure is more the norm than not.Pwns wrote:What's wrong with teaching people to take precautions against other people doing bad things to them? And the other thing, for an example, is the bragging/cat call that occurs when a women walks in a mans view. We've all seen a good looking women and have said something to the effect of, " I'd hit it". I've seen it in college and in the workplace. I even had a guy next to me at the copy machine tell me he'd "tear that girl apart" and the unknowingly pointed towards my wife down the hall. Anecdotal, yes. But we all know it occurs.
Btw, if anyone on here hasn't realized it by now, I thoroughly enjoy throwing in contrary opinions just for the sake of playing Devil's Advocate. Even if I don't agree ( or understand totally) the position. But sometimes, I like throwing it out there. I feel it makes a topic more robust.

Chicks talk about, "hitting" men all of the time.
BTW, I just read a book about a medic in WWII. He said the prisoners reported that the German women at the death camps were far more sadistic and cruel than then men.
