This time was only 15 laps into the race. At least she crashed by herself and didn't take anyone else out.

Yep. The new Chase format is to have 16 playoff drivers. After each three races of the final ten, four drivers are eliminated. The highest finisher of the last four in race 10 at Homestead is the champ.MSUDuo wrote:Are points reset like previous years? More points for more wins still?

Agreed.93henfan wrote:Yep. The new Chase format is to have 16 playoff drivers. After each three races of the final ten, four drivers are eliminated. I personally hate this format.

Dude was really dumb for running at a sprint car, particularly from the outside. WTF?BDKJMU wrote:Stewart hits, kills driver on NY track

20 yr old young man. Losing his cool and letting stupidity take over cost him his life..93henfan wrote:Dude was really dumb for running at a sprint car, particularly from the outside. WTF?BDKJMU wrote:Stewart hits, kills driver on NY track

Tony Stewart might be tied up in court for awhile over this one.

Short of a win, he's not making it. He's over 50 positions out of the 16th spot with only five races left. AND there are five drivers between him and the cutoff.BDKJMU wrote:This ain't gonna help Stewart's Chase chances...

Yeah, imagine that. A 20 year old hothead.BDKJMU wrote:20 yr old young man. Losing his cool and letting stupidity take over cost him his life..93henfan wrote:

Yes, if hugging a Hoosier tire is what you love.AZGrizFan wrote:Yeah, imagine that. A 20 year old hothead.BDKJMU wrote:

But hey, at least he died doing what he loved. AmIrite?

You mean we're not going to see anymore of this? Granted was on pit road (about 1 min mark):93henfan wrote:Getting back to the sprint race death, this will end up being one of those watershed moments in racing (like the death of DE Sr. and all the resulting mandated use of HANS devices and institution of SAFER barriers) where people say, "duh, why didn't we do this sooner?"
Your going to see new rules at every level that state something to the effect of, unless your car is smoking or on fire, you do not get out until a safety vehicle arrives. And you will not approach another car or you will be docked driver points and/or suspended from the next race.
The one rule I really miss though, especially when I watch a race from the 80s on ESPN Classic or YouTube, is the unlimited speed limit on pit road. That was FUN!

I think most of those are after the 1991 pit road speed limits were instituted.
Here's an example of what I'm talking about. There are so many things wrong/hilarious in this clip. Look how fast Terry Labonte (blue #44) overtakes Darrell Waltrip (#11) as he's approaching his pit. Then watch Waltrip reverse and nearly take out his crewman's legs. Then watch two cars slip exiting the pits on a track that was not very well dried after a rain delay.![]()

I went to two or three races there, but likely before then because Gant had an older paint scheme when I went. One time I sat right there in the stands on turns 1-2. First couple of rows too. We got an occasional spray of "marbles".93henfan wrote:Correct. Richmond Fairgrounds before the reconfiguration. I was at that race.
