Funny how all the "dictators" our media derides supply cheap gas, and other perks to their populations, and make our government look like a total failure, isn't it?

I admitted that in the video.. but you're missing the point:

Our government subsidizes lots of things.. there is no excuse to have gas as expensive as we do.

It's 57x more expensive because our salaries are 57x higher than Venezuela. :coffee:

As many reports and studies have indicated...
Gas at the pump prices are NOT directly related to extraction and processing costs
Nor are they directly related to Supply and Demand

They are very nearly aligned with a fixed standard, also called "The threshold of Pain"

Which as many reports and studies have also shown was artificially elevated to $4.00 in August of 2008

The closest comparative product in US Market studies is Liquor (Commercially marketed Alcohol)
Many similar characteristics are at play economically between the two

Booze and Gas at the Pump share these things below
1) Retail pricing has little correlation to supply and demand
2) City / State / and Federal taxes establish a huge percentage of the street price
3) Creation / extraction total costs to market have little to do with street value

I actually really enjoy your comment Chizzang.. I disagree with you though that we need to "maximize" our profits regarding making sure you get every single cent out of the US taxpayer.. why not reduce energy costs, and allow more spending in other areas- especially with all the American Oil properties which have recently come online? I mean.. Instead of paying billions into welfare, just reduce energy costs and make life easier for the working man..

I think a lot of Americans (such as myself) would rather fix the nation we love, and live in than jump ship..

That said.. and answering your question regarding why not move.. Chavez is now dead, the guy who was making life easier and improving Venezuela.. so that's one reason there is less incentive to move there.

Actually, after I get about 50K in savings, it seems perhaps a move to another country with a lower cost of living would make sense.. and start a business there. Perhaps Venezuela still, which still looks pretty good, I just need to learn more Spanish (funny, seeing as how I live in California, right?)..

Check out this drive to the Caracas airport.. this looks better than 90% of American cities:

That looks like a nation on the rise to be honest.

Why not regulate oil speculation? That's key in the cost of fuel prices. It really doesn't matter when more reserves are found, more refining capacity is brought online, etc. as long as the speculators can create artificial supply and demand scenarios to keep prices within a certain range. The Saudis routinely try to hit target prices/barrel in order to keep profitability within range.

That is a good point., I am curious how Venezuela was able to reduce/eliminate oil speculation, and allow their people to pay 7cents a gallon..

I have a feeling there is the OPEC/Bilderberg mandated "global price per value of population" and that the government of Venezuela said "F-That!" and subsidized it (Which our government could easily do)..

I have no problem with that (our government using subsidies to make the working person's life easier)-

That said, that is a great question regarding regulating speculation and I appreciate the conversation instead of posting nonsenical pictures of girl's butts and a blatant attempt of ignoring the ridiculous 57 Times more expensive gas prices we are experiencing vs. another nation deemed a "dictatorship".

"3rd world countries" are showing us up... Something is wrong here.

The entire petroleum infrastructure from top to bottom in Venezuela is state owned

in the grand scheme of things- where per capita fuel private fuel consumption is 1/20th of what it is in America - and of course the population of the entire country is 30 million people

it is easy to eat the costs of cheap gas for your own country

especially when that is one of the few things you can do to keep your citizens from stringing you up from the light poles - I experienced .05 cent gas in Baghdad in 2004, too..... coincidence?

That was right around the same time the US invaded, and gas prices went through the roof for the American consumer? Thanks for proving my point.

So what difference does it make if your taxes are higher if your gas price is lower? Same-same.

Honestly.. Looking around California, being realistic and honest, this state is a shithole...

I have driven across the US.. and I have to say, this country isn't looking so good. I have traveled to several "3rd world countries" in the last 10 years, and I really don't see much of a difference at this point..

Abandoning patriotism.. the US isn't looking so good, judging by the housing, roads, and homeless..

At least Venezuela provides "low income housing".. something our country doesn't do.. I'd rather see hovels than see bums at every street corner.

At least there was "hope of things getting better" in Venezuela, and Libya (before we killed Gaddafi, like I pointed out in these videos:

no, what just happened here is that you missed the point

gasoline is a for profit commodity in most countries- and it gets taxed through the roof- and gas in the US is significantly cheaper than in countries with no oil or refining capabilities. My gas was much more expensive at the pump in both Vietnam and El Salvador. right now it is about 4.60 per gallon at texaco in San Sal. It is worse in Europe

there is no grand conspiracy here

in fact, why dont you explain for us (rather than just pointing out the price of gas in an oil rich country) why gas is 4.60 a gallon in El Salvador, and 4.50 per in Saigon while it is so cheap in Venezuela?

I can't wait until spandos packs up and heads to Europe, only to discover it's almost 10 bucks a gallon there.
