The Regional teams are now set, and my hometown has won it's 6th State title in the last 20 years.

Hey SH, this team has a girl (I know her father), and in the State final she hit a 2-run homer and got a one out save (with the bases loaded) for the 7-6 victory.

Can't wait for the series! I don't know if it will be a US title this year, though. The team from Japan is loaded and they tore through the Japan tournament.

Looks like NJ and PA are headed for a showdown in the Mid-Atlantic Region. 1 more win each in pool play will guarantee them a spot in the final four/elimination round that will be on ESPN2.

Hawaii looks back to form over in West regional. They opened the tournament with 5 and 7 run wins over Northern and Southern California respectably and also beat Utah 25-0. The West winner is almost always a top contender. It'll be interesting to see how they fare if they can make it through to the series.

It looks like they are playing a double elimination tournament in the West. Is that true? The East (New England and M-A) are playing 4 pool games to set the final 4 (single elimination) round. Not sure which format I like better. I guess it depends on the draw.

EDIT: Never mind. I see that the West IS using pool play.

Texas East is the first team to punch a ticket to the LLWS from the US.

Toms River, NJ is the #1 seed in the Mid-Atlantic final 4. A PA-NJ final on Sunday is what most people predicted from the beginning. That final would feature a girl on each team (that's for you SH). The semi-finals on Friday are PA-NY and NJ-DE.

3 Toms River players were in the ESPN studio last night and got to comment on LL highlights with Jay Harris. The irony here is that there were three kids from my hometown with Jay Harris (ODU grad).

You can never seem to count out any team at these regionals! The Minnesota team was 4-0 in pool play in the midwest and got beat in the semis by Nebraska, a team that had been 1-3. Hopefully Montana can garner that same luck as they face the unbeaten Washington team in the semis.

I agree. Anything can happen when you factor in the age of these kids.
NJ is set up fine with their pitching rotation. I assume PA is as well.

Yeah, MN only beat NE 3-2 earlier. But lost 11-7 in the semis. Gotta wonder if they made a critical pitching decision.

The PA team - Taney is a very interesting story.

A- It's their first year affiliated with little league.
B- They most likely have more people to draw on than any single little league in the country - if not the world - they stretch from Center City Philly to all of South Philly as well (maybe half a million people).
C- They've taken advantage of the new boundary rules Little League put in place this year - they have one, and maybe two players that live in NJ on their team (as long as they go to school in Philly - i.e. Charters- they're good).
D- They along with the Toms River team feature a girl

That's crap that you can play with people who live outside of your area. I know the Pennsylvania team is following the rules, but you should be required to live in the area of your team. We are not talking about a school team here.

Yeah, I know that Little League has changed it's rules regarding boundaries, but I don't really know much about it. I would really like to know how the All-Star teams are formed. Large leagues have to split into two All-Star teams (usually National and American) but I'm not sure what that criteria is. I'm guessing it is based on the number of kids playing in the league. Toms River has 2 Little League systems, and in recent years, each league has had to field two All-Star teams. But this year, the TRLL only had one All-Star team while the other league (Toms River East LL) had to still field 2 teams. Clearly this is an advantage to this TRLL team where the best talent didn't have to get split up.

"If you throw it with good mechanics, it doesn't have any greater force on your shoulder than throwing other pitches, but you've got to throw it correctly," Andrews said. "It's misleading to say it's OK to throw the curveball with good mechanics because the rub is, most kids don't throw it with good mechanics.

"My rule of thumb is, don't throw the curveball until you can shave, until your bone structure has matured and you have the neuromuscular control to be able to throw the pitch properly."
