The Portland State football team engaged in 45 minutes of contact during Friday morning's practice. The Vikings emphasized first- and third-down situations, as well as run offense and run defense.
The larger spring squad size (approximately 70 players in uniform) compared to the previous two springs has given Head Coach Jerry Glanville more versatility in what he can do during spring practice.
"We can do this now. We actually have enough linemen (during spring) that we can do this," said a pleased Glanville.
"I saw good on both sides. We want some runs over 12 yards. We cracked some good runs over 12 yards. The defense doesn't want runs over 12 yards. As a coach you get mad because one side is giving you what you want and the other side is giving it up."
Several backs had an opportunity to run the ball but the incumbent, senior-to-be Bobby McClintock, impressed Glanville the most.
"That's probably the best Bobby has run the football... that was the best cuts he's made since I have been here."
