Lack of Depth

Post by jstclmet »

I was preparing to do a "CAA FORECAST" starting with William & Mary, and I noticed a number of their opponents are an injury away from a .500 or worse season, which got me to thinking about team depth in FCS.

How do you feel about your team's depth. Do you share the opinion that your team may be an injury away from a .500 or worse season. Or is your team on the opposite side of the coin where you have an abundance of depth.

As for Nova, I'm of the opinion their pretty strong with their starting units, however, depth is a very huge concern at the QB, DL, LB spots. While other positions have depth, they don't have a lot of experience. Hopefully, the incoming freshman class can put some of that anxiety to rest.

I'll get back to that "CAA Forecast" in the coming weeks.

I went with DB for UNI. Not that I don't think we have depth, because we do, but we have very few with a lot of game experience.

I also assume that you are looking at W&M's OOC and teams like URI and Towson for injuries and according records. Aren't you the one who predicted JMU would be blown away by injuries and finish 6-5 last year?

Wasn't a ban on this year's predictions a result of those prognostications?

That was in the CAAZONE. I'm honoring my bet. Still read it, but I don't post over there. However, I do send the occasional PM. As for my predicition success, I made those in the duldrums of Feb/Mar, and still had an 82% accuracy rate. Now the Spring season is behind us, although the depth thing, and the other changes teams in the CAA have endured, are making this season a little more difficult to call.

The other place where depth becomes a larger issue is the latter half of the season and playoffs. W&M's opponents in Late Oct and Nov will all be in the heat of division races, and none of them can really afford injuries in key spots during that time of year. But that saying goes for everyone. It was just a little surprising to see how thin a lot of teams were.

You JMU fans and getting your panties all in a bunch.

Ya'll act like you WEREN'T about 11 points away from being 6-5. PAHHHHLEAAAZZZZEEEEE, give it a rest. You guys are gonna be 5-6 this year as far as I can tell. Tell all the other JMU cronies over on the CAAZone to stop jerkin each other off over there and start arguing with someone other than W&M fans and gannonfan.

Armanti going down to an injury will have the greatest impact to our season....

W&M has depth everywhere except QB. Several promising youngsters, but none have yet stepped up to secure the #2 spot behind RJ Archer.

For Montana, I picked RB, but OL could be just as important. It doesn't matter what QB wins the position as all of them are inexperienced so Reynolds will have to have a big year to allow them to get comfortable. Playing Cal Poly and Davis this year will be a challenge for this younger team until they get their feet wet.
