Should we be measuring the strength of the economy based on Wall Street performance?

Wrong question.kalm wrote:Should we be measuring the strength of the economy based on Wall Street performance?
Should be asking, does WS respond to weakening economic indicators?

Do you think Wall Street is altruistic and always based on real value?travelinman67 wrote:Wrong question.kalm wrote:Should we be measuring the strength of the economy based on Wall Street performance?

Wall Street isn't supposed to be altruistic, and is rarely ever based on true value.kalm wrote:Do you think Wall Street is altruistic and always based on real value?travelinman67 wrote:

The markets' performance is tied more to the Fed's whims than to actual economic statistics. As Zack Mayo (look him up) said, investors seeking yield go to the stock market because "they got nowhere else to go." Other financial assets just lie there like a stoned hooker.kalm wrote:Do you think Wall Street is altruistic and always based on real value?travelinman67 wrote:

Exactly and when this stock market bubble explodes, since so many have had to jump out of bonds into the stock market, a lot of people are going to be in a world of hurt. It's gonna make 2007 look like a cocktail party.Ivytalk wrote:The markets' performance is tied more to the Fed's whims than to actual economic statistics. Erases 2014 earnings? That's too bad.
I am up 16.5% the past year; am I alone? FYI, I am not a savvy investor; composite funds (NASDAQ and S&P) have been good to me since I bought back strong in 2010. You sharks have probably done better.
