Oh, and this is why Catholics are scum. They'll disown their own flesh and blood for wanting to think for themselves and base their existence on something other than a superstitious cult. One step above Muslins.

Does it mean that everything in the Bible is literally true?

Does it mean that the Bible is the Word of God, allegorical in many respects, while representing and recounting an evolving relationship between mankind and its Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer?

Also, the Old Testament contains the civil law of Moses, which is not the law of God, at least according to Christianity since its earliest days.

If you believe the Bible is the Word of God, then you most likely believe what it says in Romans 3:23 "All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God", you understand no one can be completely faithful.

I've never truly understood what "Bible Inerrancy" is. There are many forms of literature in the Bible including allegories, parables, and symbolic portrayal of events.

I consider the Bible God's Word, but certainly don't understand it all, and believe no one else can either. I consider myself faithful, but I'm not completely faithful and believe no one is capable of being completely faithful.

Christianity, imho is about God's grace through the atoning death and resurrection of Jesus, the Messiah.

Constructive criticism is appreciated, disparagement is expected.
Jesus didn't "die." He was murdered by his father, who is actually Jesus.

That you're willing to just overlook this monumental fail is proof you and the rest of the Christian idiots are delusional.

Former Deist. Pretty much described me in my later high school and early college years.

I will say this. I find it ironic that so many people who so frequently cite Occam's Razor don't see the evident simplicity in a god who takes your form and explains everything to you. Isn't that the perfect God?
Spot on. Did the Fordham experience help you shed your Deist phase?
Sure did. Fordham's a great school not just because it has a faculty who can help you find genuine value in your own existence, but because of where it is located. Starting school in the fall of 1980, at a time when something called "The South Bronx" was described as that "area of the Bronx south of Fordham Road," turned out really to be an opportunity. Back then, so many people were turned off by the location (the neighborhood is much better -- although not great -- today), but it really was an asset. The Bronx opened my eyes. It was the first time in my life I really felt "connected" to others. It was the first time in my life I really understood why it was an obligation to help others. I think it was the first time I understood that I was selfish, and I wanted to change.

You might have recognized the core curriculum at Fordham because it was very similar to the core curriculum at Harvard. You'd think the first theology you'd have to take in the liberal arts school at Fordham was something based in Catholicism or Christianity, but it was "World Religions." I remember thinking as the class developed that all religions seemed to share a very common core of values. Coupled with my philosophy class, Introduction to Metaphysics (which I originally dismissed as "bunk" and "intellectual drooling"), my eyes were opened to the vanity of believing we can know all and experience all through our intellect, our perceptions, and our logic and inferences. It seemed so OBVIOUS that there were truths and realities beyond our experience -- and yet I had never seen that before. I had been content to base all my beliefs on actual knowledge and experience, and had never understood before how limited our knowledge and experience were.

Deism is a station on the railway. If you've reached it, that's good, because it means you are thinking for yourself and you are not saying something just because you were taught it when you were young. But there's more to the journey, because Deism suggests questions you really should answer. I had always felt ashamed that I had an intuitive need for a personal God, but when I came to understand that human intuition is just as significant as actual knowledge and experience, I came to believe there is a reason we intuit a personal God.

Intuition is the foundation of the scientific method, and no matter of science is provable until someone intuits a belief and then tests it. Nonetheless, there are many scientific intuitions that become accepted as true, even though they can never be tested: the Big Bang, evolution. And the existence of God falls into that category too: it cannot be proven, but it can be rationally accepted. And I say that because I believe that it is manifestly obvious that there are dimensions of reality we do not know, and that I believe that somewhere there MUST BE a repository of all truths: human truth, scientific truth, moral truth. And those truths compel us to feel connected and care for each other.

I completed this in one fewer paragraph that JSO would have. ;)

All those years of Catholic schooling and you don't understand. The point of the story is that "death" is a human perception. The point of the story is the Resurrection.

I think salvation through Jesus only is largely misunderstood, often by Christians themselves.

That "no one can come to the Father except through me" does not foreclose salvation to those who have not consciously chosen to follow Jesus. Jesus certainly possesses the power to grab the hands of those who did not consciously reach out to him, and to suggest otherwise improperly places limits on God's mercy.

I'm not lying. And just because some 75-year-old nun with an IQ significantly below yours told you something differently about Jesus when you were 10 doesn't mean what she told you is genuine Catholic Catechism. For a guy who does a lot of thinking for himself, you sure have a reluctance to consider whether what that nun told you represents the truth about Catholicism. Wake up. I learned a long time ago that a lot of what those nuns said isn't really Church teaching.

Legions of you idiots putting billions into child indoctrination campaigns that robs them of their youth and free minds, mandatory prayer in public setting, restriction of reproductive rights, bigotry against gays and others, stifling of science, protection of pedophiles/child abusers/sadists/rapists, protection of tax free status that cost us billions, conservative political campaigns only focused on marginalization of minorities and the poor....
