Gay Parenting Gone Bad

Post by CAA Flagship »

This crap seems to happen once a week. Is this because it is reported more nationally, or are people just getting dumberer.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — A 10-month-old Kansas girl died after being strapped for more than two hours inside a sweltering car, and police arrested a foster parent who said he'd forgotten about her until something on TV jogged his memory, an official said Friday.

The 29-year-old man was booked on suspicion of aggravated endangerment but has not been charged, said Lt. Todd Ojile of the Wichita Police Department. The case will be presented early next week to prosecutors.

The investigation found that the girl was picked up from the baby sitter at around 4 p.m. Thursday and brought home, where she was "somehow forgotten" in the back seat of the car in Wichita, where temperatures were around 90 degrees. The foster parent went inside the house with a 5-year-old child that had also been with him, but left the baby strapped in the car seat in the parked car outside the house.

The other foster parent in the house at the time, his 26-year-old partner, was in the backyard when they came in. No charges are expected against him, Ojile said.

Exactly. This happens way to often. Very sad.

First instance I've heard of where a gay couple was involved. They probably won't be able to get another kid, unlike the hetero nitwit parents that can just have another.

In a country of over 300 million people with people going about their lives thinking about different things even things that seem as though they should NEVER happen will happen. I've never been one to be too hard on somebody when this happens by accident. It's a horrible thing. My guess on this one is that they really did care about the little girl and this was just a tragic oversight.

So, you are against abortion. But it's okay if they put the bun back into the oven.

Pure Genius. You usually are spot on, but are missing the target here.

Wanna bet the rate of abused children amongst adopted children is higher than those who gave birth?

Obviously, we are talking about an accident vs. an intentional fatal attack. We all heard about a recent instance in which it looks like someone intentionally left a kid in a hot car. But I believe the case we're talking about in this thread involved someone just forgetting that the kid was in the car or that they didn't already take the kid out.

To me it's in the same category as walking off and leaving your toddler unattended in the bathtub. More kids under 5 drown in bath tubs each year than die after being left in hot vehicles (somewhere around 100 on average vs. somewhere around 40). Seems to me like a person should have enough sense not to create a situation in which that can happen. But people make mistakes and I would bet that in the overwhelming majority of instances the person who makes the mistake is devastated and grief stricken.

Sometimes I wonder why our society tends to focus on certain things. Some things make the news and some don't. Some things create a more dramatic impression I guess. I guess, for instance, "toddler dies after being left in hot car" creates more dramatic mental images than "toddler drowns after being left alone in bath tub" does.

The thing that strikes me in this case is that you have a child that, at 10 months, can't really do anything by herself. Everything is dependent on the caregiver.

I have heard of cases like this that you can blame on complete selfishness. Someone goes into a bar or store and leaves the kid in the car on purpose. These people need to be exterminated.
In some cases, the caregiver had the child "out of routine" and forgot. Like a person that normally does not drop the kid off at day care but was supposed to that day, and while driving to work simply got sidetracked mentally and went straight to work and forgot that the kid was in the car. Unforgivable, but I can see how this could happen.

This case is a little different. The foster parent picked up the kid and brought her home. Then he got out of the car and went into the house. I find it hard to believe that this was a non-routine event. Clearly the level of attention that a 10 month old child requires was not there. When my kids were that age, their care was always on my mind.

So why did this happen? Clearly it has nothing to do with their sexual orientation. But does it have something to do with their lack of maternal/paternal association with the child? I don't know. I just don't see how you can pick up a child that age and leave her in the driveway.

Um. So. What? Because of this... abandon the foster parent system... and just keep all orphans in orphanages without any semblance of a life? Release them at 18 and tell them to pull their bootstraps up and make something of themselves?

Oversight and enforcement is the problem with this country. Whether it is high finance, drugs, scams, welfare, immigration, identity theft, or whatever, we are great at writing laws we can't enforce.
This is a terrible tragedy and could have been just a big mistake by good people. But it also could have been just another mistake by bad people, or people not equipped to handle 4 kids when they have not reached 30 years old yet. I'm not suggesting anything, I'm just curious to know.
