What Libertarianism Isn't

I found this quote to describe anyone on the left or right
On a range of issues, liberals seem not only increasingly incapable of comprehending how or why someone would affirm a more traditional vision of the human good, but inclined to relegate dissenters to the category of moral monsters who deserve to be excommunicated from civilized life—and sometimes coerced into compliance by the government.
Turns out I might be a little gay. 89Hen 11/7/17

I thought you were going to say "rational."
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Very good read and tough to argue with. The problem with libertarianism is that sometimes, government is substantially ahead of market and societal fixes.

No, the problem with Libertarianism is that it's full of Libertarians.

Ideally, markets are perfect and self correcting. The problem is that what the market wants and needs doesn't always correlate with that society wants.

Big "L" Libertarian means you consider yourself a member of the Libertarian Party.

ALL representative government is reactionary

You really are trying to suggest that the CCC was a triumph of foresight?

Child labor laws were not a reaction to conditions that had previously existed for hundreds of years?

Seriously nothing you listed can be held up as an exemplar of government foresight- even the space program was a political propaganda tool - if not for the Soviets we never would have tried the moon in that period

The term "reactionary" was brought by you to the conversation in reply to a point I was making. If you weren't in such a hurry to talk past me, you might understand the conversation better.

For example, when would the market had gotten around to building Grand Coulee Dam?

I'd start with the notion that government sucks, but it does some good things ahead of when the market does...then go on from there. I'm here to help temper your neo liberalism... :thumb:

If anything the last 40 years of the US Space program proves that it was a Big Government dick measuring contest.

Maybe now its gone private, we can start to make some serious advancement in that spectrum.

No, you shoveled a load of horsecrap, got called on it for the sheer ridiculousness, and now you're playing the "you didn't understand what i was saying because Im so nuanced" game

government is 100% reactive-reactionary-whatever the hell you want to call it. it responds to events only and lately cannot even do THAT properly

your premise that our government is sometimes out ahead of markets is false- I really have no idea where this liberal love affair with government comes from
