I'm not so sure.

You might find that certain political classes would be less vocal about allowing willy nilly immigration of people who do not contribute (as opposed to visas for skilled workers pursuant to permanent residence), but people will still come simply to improve their economic situations. Central America IS bad, and for the average campesino, having an immediate family member in the US is advantageous for many reasons.

For example, 1/4th-1/3rd of the entire population of El Salvador lives in the United States. Most of those are on TPS but ALL of them are working. As a result, almost 1/3rd of the economy of El Salvador is based on remesas - remittances back to the home country. As a result, the entire system down her gets involved. Politicians actually campaign on their willingness to compel the US to renew TPS when it comes up, because they want and NEED that 1/3rd of the population to be in the US. This is also why Central American countries and Mexico essentially do nothing about illegal migration across their borders. Every one of these UACs that cross into the US have also been waved across at least one other border (Mexico-Guatemala). Busloads of children and nobody is stopping them.

The answer, as many people (mostly liberals) like to tell us (and they are correct) is that until conditions improve in the home countries there will be this migration. So we dump lots of money into the host government in the form of aid for governance, rule of law, policing, agriculture, investment, job creation, etc. However, as with all free money, there is an incentive to continue to need it, of you get my drift.

Mandatory jail time for employers of illegals and the problem goes away overnight. Conks want illegals here to keep wages down and provide a handy straw man. :coffee:

But you would find that an equal amount of empoyers from both sides of the spectrum would be sharing cells in the pokey

Businesses in general are loyal only to one party, the one who will make them the most money.

Besides, if something like this would "hurt Conks" so badly, even when the Donks had a supermajority, it never came up. There's a reason illegal immigration wasn't on the agenda at all.

Interesting paradigms how the "Buy America" "Dey took er Jerbs" crowd is big on containing illegal immigration but when a company ships jobs overseas for budgetary reasons, "its their right as a company. And how the "occupy life" "we need a living wage" crowd looks the other way on illegals because "they want the American dream, and they only work jobs that I refuse to do."
MEAC, last one out turn off the lights.

The law itself is not at issue

These UACs started flocking to the border in elevated numbers beginning just a year and a half ago

the law did not cause that

As has already been pointed out, the law isn't the issue. BHO could make this go away with the stroke of a pen.

Also many of the UAC are being picked up by an illegal family member and the BP aren't allowed to inquire as to the family members immigration status. Saw the head of the National BP Council on TV talking bout this. Allow the BP/CPB to determine immigration status and these family members will quit coming to pick them up, and then these kids will stop coming. Another issue that could be solved with the stroke of Obama's pen.

And y'all would be bitching about Obama's abuse of executive power to ignore a law.

Right? Or not in this case... because you would agree with the decision? :?

You can disagree about ACA as an "exigent circumstance" if you want. I figured you would... but, there you go.

The mandate was going into effect in a matter of months. After Obama's executive order the Republican House voted in favor of the delay . If the delay was purely political... why would they vote for it? Because it was needed and there was only had 6 months or so before it went into effect.

Send them back.

Or better yet, detain & deport the family members who show up to pick them up. That would then deter family members send them/sending for them. From the Congressman from VA whose district includes Harrisonburg:

"Lawmaker: Most child immigrants trying to meet parents who are in the U.S. illegally

The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee said Thursday that most children from Central America entering the United States illegally are trying to reunite with one or more of their parents, who are already in the country illegally themselves.

The vast majority of Central American minors who are unaccompanied meet up with their parents who are already in the United States illegally,” Goodlatte’s report concluded. “Further, these parents often had a role in smuggling the minors into the United States.

Goodlatte said several minors from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras admitted openly they were looking for a parent that was already in the country.

“At a tour of the HHS facility housing boys ages 8-17, members were told that the phone is ringing off the hook with parents looking for their children who they know made — and often directed to make — the dangerous journey to the U.S.,” the report said.

It also said members watched as a 15-year old boy from Honduras was apprehended. That boy said he traveled to the U.S. to find his mother, “who has been in Los Angeles since he was six,” the report said.

Goodlatte also found that U.S. border agents believe tougher border enforcement is needed to deter illegal immigrants, and that the U.S. needs to end its “catch and release” program.

Third, Goodlatte said environmental rules are prohibiting U.S. border agents from accessing certain areas of the border as they do their jobs.

Goodlatte said the Obama administration already has the tools available to do a much better job of policing the border. He said the border crisis is a “disaster of President Obama’s own making.”

“If President Obama wants to stop this problem, he should enforce our immigration laws and quit using his pen and phone to create administrative legalization programs,” he said. “Additionally, he needs to direct officials at the Department of Homeland Security to crack down on asylum fraud and implement deterrents to stop people from entering in violation of the law.”"

And the DHS put out a solicitation back in Jan on FedBizOpps, a fed vendor to transport UACs throughout the country, wherever they wanted to go, at taxpayer expense.

So in a nutshell not only are they not sent back after turning themselves in at the border, they get free transportation, paid for by you and I, to wherever in the US they want to go. You can't make this sh*t up. Only in America... :ohno:

Humanitarian/national security/public health disaster on the border is not political, SK.

It is an emergency.

The clusterfuck that is the ACA is not an emergency unless you are a vulnerable Dem who voted for it

you cannot successfully argue this though try you will

but all this us a sideshow- you claimed that a law bars us from sending these kids back and you were wrong

this president has shown that he will circumvent the law for purely political reasons. so there is no reason to believe he cannot do it in an emergency

and yes- under exigent circumstances (i.e.: a real, not political crisis) i would support it

"We taxpayers are expected to house, feed, clothe and care for almost 30,000 illegal aliens for a full year, according to the White House’s official request. That’s a small city.

Instead, we could fly all of them home for one-half of 1 percent of the $3.8 billion that President Obama proposes we spend. That’s a savings of 99.5 percent!"

Gotta get Honduras, Guate and El Sal to accept them... otherwise the big bad US just dropped kids off at the Comalapa airport to starve

And these three governments BENEFIT from this crisis because they can make financial demands as a condition of their cooperation

So deportation is one part of the process but we also need to play hardball with these governments (and we CAN because they are the beneficiaries of millions in aid and other largesse)

As liberals like to say-

this is a nuanced situation
