Congratulations to Coach Tinkle! Well deserved!
But now he's dead to us…

I thought he would stay for another year due to his son being a SR next year. Oh well. Any news on schools his son is looking at?Mvemjsunpx wrote:Fun fact: the Griz have been to the NCAA Tournament 9 times since Oregon State's last appearance (1990).

I'm not sure Engstrom really has "fucked the school" any (I think O'Day & Pflugrad deserved to be fired, though it's unclear whether Engstrom canned them for the right reasons and his PR handling of everything was certainly a mess), but there're a lot of good candidates. My first choice would be Bill Evans, but that has about no chance of happening. I hope it's not Blaine Taylor.Also...news on possible coaching candidates? Could Engstrom toss his hat in the ring to completely fuck the school more and keep his legacy intact?

I figured his kid would go the Utah way.Mvemjsunpx wrote:Oregon State?grizzaholic wrote:

Seriously, though, I believe Krystko's already offered him a scholarship at Utah.

Pflugrad's negligence during the bail money fiasco was a big reason things got as bad as they did. It was borderline whether he deserved to be fired, IMO (and I think O'Day is more to blame than him), but his self-absorbed, mopey behavior since his firing makes it clear to me he didn't learn anything from this & that it's likely this kind of thing would've happened again. Pflugrad comes off more like a glorified offensive coordinator who had no interest in team administration/discipline/etc. In retrospect, it seems possible other schools saw this in him & that's why he never got a head job prior to UM.grizzaholic wrote:I figured his kid would go the Utah way.
Not to go all E-Griz on ya...Engstrom fucked Montana IMO. Big time. The ball was rolling down hill and Pflu was set to put the Maybach 62 back in gear and 'doink' he got fucked us and it was a landslide.
Also...coaching $-dollar-$ are terrible at Montana which makes no sense to me. I guess they gotta pay for all the buildings and properties before the cash cow that makes these things possible...rightFuck me right? I gave up my 4 tickets. If I want to attend a game I can always get them, no problem...unlike previous years.
That says a lot.

Montana really pissed this one down their leg.CAA Flagship wrote:So Montana pissed away Tinkle?

I had many conversations with him and played golf with him at least twice while at ODU. Personally, he is a really good guy. Professionally, I think he has the experience and drive to do well. He is energetic and should be able to recruit well. I think he will be a "player's coach" because he will be involved with them more than some older coaches. I think Montana did well with this hire, but if he wins, he will move on. He has built a good reputation thus far and just needs that HC experience on his resume.Grizalltheway wrote:Montana announces Travis DeCuire as its new head coach. Any ODU guys have thoughts on him?

Due the (relatively) low salaries we pay them, that tends to be the norm with our football and men's basketball coaches. The one guy who said he wanted to retire at UM (Pflu) got fired.CAA Flagship wrote:I had many conversations with him and played golf with him at least twice while at ODU. I don't actually believe Pflugrad had much intention of staying in Missoula forever before he was fired. That just fits with the mopey, self-absorbed depression he's displayed in interviews since he was canned.Grizalltheway wrote:Due the (relatively) low salaries we pay them, that tends to be the norm with our football and men's basketball coaches.
