NEW: Ex-Wyoming QB Stutzriem headed to Indiana State

Post by dbackjon »

Former University of Wyoming quarterback Chris Stutzriem will transfer to Indiana State University and will play for the Sycamores next fall. Stutzriem confirmed his intention to transfer to the Tribune-Star on Tuesday.

Stutzriem, who hails from Lawton, Okla., is 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds.

“I’m a bigger guy, so I like the pro-style offense [ISU runs],” Stutzriem said. “My motto is ‘get the ball into the athletes’ hands.’ I like pro-style, I like the option to change the play at the line. I like the guys on this team. They’re great guys, there’s no bad characters and it’s a good football atmosphere.”

Stutzriem, a sophomore, will have immediate eligibility. Transfers from FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) to FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) programs are not required to sit out a year.

Stutzriem made four late-season starts for the Cowboys in 2008, compiling a 2-2 record, including a 13-7 victory at Tennessee on Nov. 8. He completed 55 of 98 passes for 660 yards with five touchdown passes and five interceptions. His best outing came in a 35-10 win over San Diego State on Nov. 1 when he had a QB rating of 232.44. His season rating was 119.33.

haha.. Wow, he said he left Wyoming to transfer to a school "closer to home".. not sure if ISU is closer to Oklahoma than Laramie.

Stutz is a good QB, best of the Cowboy QBs last year. Good arm, but kinda slow.. like, a rolley polley, but I liked him as a QB. He was angry when Joe Glenn was let go, shot his mouth off to the paper about it (I think ESPN picked up the story as well), then he was gone a few weeks later. I suspect Christiansen didn't want to keep him around after that.

Lucky for Weber, unless that new transfer QB (from Phoenix?) is as good as you think he might be!

Christiansen looks scary good as a coach!

Is he talking about the same Indiana State that hasn't won a game in 2 years and has about 1 win in 4 years?

Unfortunately, I'm only sold on one Wyoming QB, Adam Barry. The last JUCU QB we got from Arizona (Dax Crum) sucked horribly last year.. the change from JUCO to 1-A was a bit much for him. Stutz was good, but he's a non-factor now and will probably turn into a nothing at ISU because of the talent at ISU.
