Atheists generally are self absorbed and into me, me, me. That's what happens when you don't have The Lord in your life, most become selfish pricks that bad mouth religion to justify their selfishness to not help others.
Having the "The Lord in your life" is often times different than being a Christian...especially from fundi denominations (channeling my inner Cleets here).

At least the atheists offer help without any strings attached while honoring cultural beliefs. :coffee:
Yeah, all two of them!!

SG, Clenz and Alphagriz are spot on.

And if you think Peace Corp, UNICEF and other non-religious groups don't sell social engineering agendas...I have a bridge for you at a great price...

Sure...it probably happens some times. Can you be more specific, cite some examples for the group?

Trip,
Your friend is like a kid with a new toy. One that plays with it constantly for two weeks straight until he is bored with it. You said he was recently Baptized so this is a new experience for him. He sounds like the type of person that goes overboard on a new thing. I know a lot of people like that (My wife is like that in many cases). The opposite would be those that strictly go with what they know, and never try anything different. The middle ground would be people that will learn about, or even experience, something new, evaluate it, and if they like it, slowly blend it into their life.
I'm guessing that the advice you and your other like-minded friends were telling him was to slow down and think it through. Take this new chapter in life one step at a time. Nothing wrong with that. But it never works on a 7 year old with a new toy.

So, how long did that 3-some thing work for you and your wife (and the third party)? Anal beads? BJ's for breakfast? Was Cap'n involved at any point? :suspicious:

I'll support him, but it's funny how his well-educated, professional friends said it was a bad idea, and all his Church friends (most of which have no degrees and work retail/restaurant jobs, or for the Church itself) said that it was his "calling."

Ultimately to each their own, but this one really hurts.

/rant.
His so called friends don't have to agree or like is walk with God. This is HIS walk not his friends. Look in the Bible, and when God calls a man to do work, his friends never understand nor like it. I have a friend who left a job paying over 150k a year to go into the ministry. Most of his so called friends called him stupid or crazy. Now he makes more that his old job. In addition to his Church income, he owns a resturant, a Beauty supply store and a Gym.

It was right here that I said to myself that I bet he did it to make MORE money. Then you finished with this:

Here is where I agree with D1B. :?
How does he make THAT much money? What education process did he follow in order to lead people on this subject? Was all that money supposed to go to the needy?

I don't think anybody who goes to do missionary work in Africa is doing it for selfish reasons.

Otherwise, I think that true Christians do what they do because they view it as saving people.

You know it's interesting in that I know an engineer who was willing to give up his career to pursue evangelizing. But what happened is that his employer instead did everything it could to keep him involved. Let him work on things when and where he could, etc. Of course he obviously wasn't going to Africa. He was just going to seminary and wanting to pursue a career in ministry. But it was clear that his employer didn't want to give up his expertise. It was very interesting to me.
