So now that Obamacare is here, what is the GOPs agenda going to be? Do we expect them to continue with their calls to repeal it, forcing millions who have insurance through it to suddenly become uninsured (again)? That seems foolhardy. If the GOP keeps takes over Congress, will they actually repeal it OR will they do some good and fix it?

I honestly expect the Tea Party Republicans to repeal it in full. That would be disastrous, in terms of public opinion (and possibly economically.)

The only thing I am sure of is that they will do whatever is expedient for the Republican Party as they see it. Which means neither fixing nor repealing it. But the Dems have already demonstrated they will do no better.

Neither side will do what is necessary to make it work because that would be painful. Nancy Pelosi had no choice but to tell people we had to pass it to find out what was in it, because the truth was this-"this plan will work only if we collectively suffer a little pain in the wallet". It never would have flown under those circumstances.

Now, we have the President arbitrarily gutting the law with the mandate delays (putting them off until 2016....) because to fully implement the law on time would be .... painful.

Our grandchildren will not live to see this law work as planned or as advertised, but they will be witnesses to endless tinkering

I tend to agree but we cannot continue to allow POTUS to simply disregard the law. Where are the checks and balances? If the Congress wasn't so damn polarized (and the GOP didn't waste time failing 43 times to repeal the law) maybe they can come up with a plan to improve/fix the ACA.

There is a reason why 4 Democrats and 2 Republicans are not running for re-election in the Senate and why 16 Democrats and 25 Republicans aren't in the House. Unfortunately, as in Rep. Petri's case, his giving up the seat is an almost definite win for a Tea Party conservative.

Why are you limiting this to only 15 years? :dunce: Why not blame Truman...or George Washington?

And this isn't just YOU painting YOUR room. You are barging into your neighbor's house and expecting him to give you some of his paint to solve your problem.

Why can't I shop for insurance across all states? Why can't I but a Tesla at a Tesla dealership in any state I choose?

None of this is about government supplied insurance (which is the second worst thing we could have)...it is about keeping big business profitable. We keep electing pigs to eat at the trough.

Instead of insisting on competition and focusing on removing barriers to competition, you are instead just being effing lazy and selfish by praising this piece of shvt legislation and forcing your neighbors, and everyone else, to pay for your issues. :ohno:

Bigger government, with bigger government programs forced upon us, doesn't solve problems.

Thanks for reiterating the GOP stance that has successfully kept the GOP from doing anything useful and beneficial for the common people of this country in several decades. Reflect and deflect at it's finest.....good job...

Millions?? Maybe a few million. Most of those 10 million (or whatever # the BHO admin is making up these days), already had insurance. Then you have to factor in the 6 million who lost insurance on the individual market. How many millions are paying higher premiums now?

The majority of voters are against Obamacare. Repealing it would please a lot more than it disappoints.

"65-89% of Obamacare exchanges enrollees were previously insured

The latest reporting on this topic comes from Christopher Weaver and Anna Wilde Mathews of the Wall Street Journal. They cite several industry surveys on the coverage history of those signing up for insurance on the Obamacare exchanges. The first, from McKinsey & Co., indicates that "only 11 percent of consumers who bought new coverage under the law were previously uninsured." McKinsey surveyed 4,563 individuals "thought to be eligible for the health-law marketplaces," of which 389 had enrolled in exchange-based plans.

Of those that didn’t sign up for Obamacare-based coverage, 52 percent stated that "affordability" was their biggest complaint with the exchanges’ plan offerings. Only 30 percent cited "technical challenges in buying the plans."

HealthMarkets, a insurance holding company based in Texas, conducted its own survey based on the 7,500-or-so people that the company enrolled in exchange-based plans. Based on their survey, obtained by Wilde and Mathews, only 35 percent of enrollees were previously uninsured. 10 percent previously had employer-sponsored coverage, but were dropping into the exchanges either because the exchanges offered a better (i.e., taxpayer-subsidized) deal, or because their employer had stopped offering coverage......"

http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2014/0 ... -a-doctor/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And some patients who've gotten Obamacare insurance can't find a doctor...

"MOUNTAIN VIEW (KPIX 5) – While open enrollment for coverage under the Affordable Care Act is closed, many of the newly insured are finding they can’t find doctors, landing them into a state described as “medical homelessness.”

Rotacare, a free clinic for the uninsured in Mountain View, is dealing with the problem firsthand.

Mirella Nguyen works at the clinic said staffers dutifully helped uninsured clients sign up for Obamacare so they would no longer need the free clinic.

But months later, the clinic’s former patients are coming back to the clinic begging for help. “They’re coming back to us now and saying I can’t find a doctor, “said Nguyen.

Thinn Ong was thrilled to qualify for a subsidy on the health care exchange. She is paying $200 a month in premiums. But the single mother of two is asking, what for?

“Yeah, I sign it. I got it. But where’s my doctor? Who’s my doctor? I don’t know,” said a frustrated Ong.

Nguyen said the newly insured patients checked the physicians’ lists they were provided and were told they weren’t accepting new patients or they did not participate in the plan.

And Nguyen says – while the free clinic isn’t technically supposed to be treating former patents they signed up for insurance, they can’t in good faith turn them away.

Dr. Kevin Grumbach of UCSF called the phenomenon “medical homelessness,” where patients are caught adrift in a system woefully short of primary care doctors.

“Insurance coverage is a necessary but not a sufficient condition to assure that people get access to care when they need it,” Grumbach said.

Those who can’t find a doctor are supposed to lodge a complaint with state regulators, who have been denying the existence of a doctor shortage for months.

Meanwhile, the sick and insured can’t get appointments.

“What good is coverage if you can’t use it?” Nguyen said.

Experts said the magnitude of the problem is growing, and will soon be felt by all Californians. But those on the front lines, like the free clinic, are feeling it first.

More than 3 million Californians are newly insured. At the same time, a third of our primary care doctors are set to retire.
