Give it up D. This thing where you think the reason for human atrocity is religion is just wrong.

It's not a situation in which everything would've been all sweetness and light throughout history if ONLY there hadn't been religion. It's just not. Religion has been used as an excuse at times. But it's not the cause.

The cause is in our nature as a species.

That may be true in certain cases. But if religion were not available it would be something else. One thing the 20th Century showed beyond any reasonable doubt is that the ones who inspire this sort of thing don't need religion to do it.
