When I was drivng to work one day during the 1990s I heard a radio report on a poll they did where fewer than half of students at Ivy League schools could name even one US Supreme Court Justice.

Now think about that. For the most part the Ivy league gathers the creme de la creme of American young people. You're talking about, for the most part, a fraction of the top 1 percent in terms of intelligence and academic performance.

And fewer than half of them could name even one Supreme Court Justice. That wasn't a man on the street interview thing either. It was a scientific poll.

That's downright frightening. It makes you wonder about the idea that the People are electing those that are going to run things. Not that I wouldn't want that. But when you get a feel for how much or how little people know about what's going on around them then contemplate the fact that they're voting for who is going to be running things it is kind of sobering.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?
